What is the purpose of the Non-Catholic Religion section of the forum?

Trust me, this board is much more civil on alot of issues compared to some other “christian” boards, and also over at MAD
Yeah, LOL, visit the Baptist board; they call their equivalent of this board “False Religions.” If you’re ever in a particularly masochistic mood, or if somebody feels like they need to whine about this board, go over there and read some of that stuff.

Z is a product of the forum. Bash the lds church and he bashes back. I don’t agree with him. But catholics are the host and the host does need to be polite and welcoming. Where much is given much is expected.
Again a non-answer just casting Z in the role of victim.

I agree with the poster who said the MAD board is not so nice. May not be a lot of Catholic bashing but boy they have at the Evangelicals viciously.

i have read, and been told about, a certain persecution complex that momrans have. now that I have observed this behovior here for several months on the part of whyme and z, i have started to believe that it is true.

the two of them have different styles, but their purposes seem identical, which is i would say: missionarying.

sorry, whyme, this may hurt your tender feelings, but what is must be said. i am not the only one here who has noticed this about you, didn’t LaMar also notice this in one of his first posts?

so i would say that if you want a kinder, gentler NCR forum, try spending less time trolling for converts to your religion, and of course i mean the mormoan one.

Nope you got that one wrong. I don’t feel persecuted at all. And my posts are far from inflammatory. Maybe you don’t agree with them and that makes them inflammatory but, in general I am rather a peaceful poster. In terms of taking communion, I feel comfortable with my decision. And so no problem.

But notice how in your post you become personal. This is my point and one of the reasons why people leave the forum.

Where have all the gentle mormons gone? To greener pastures every one. 🤷
Hmmm. Seems I’m not the only one detecting the persecution tone.

Yes, posts are personal, when they are made by an individual, stating “their” views and opinions. Did you happen to notice in your OP that you used the word “I” 6 times. Using the word “I” makes it personal don’t you think?

Your statement from your OP, “And so, since this section is one of contention, anger, and bigotry,…” Like I said earlier, just because people don’t agree with you, and you aren’t prevailing in the conversation, doesn’t mean there is contention, anger or bigotry. Although, I have noticed that when it is obvious you aren’t going to prevail in a conversation, you convieniently stop posting on that thread, and either find, or start a new one.

I also stand by my statement about some of your posts being inflammatory. Again, from your OP, “And as such, it needs to be abolished or shut down…”, you don’t think that is going to upset people and get them to vigorously defend this forum?

From one of your responses to LaMar, on this thread, you said, “Now…for the other more judgemental catholics, well, they need to go to confession and confess their behavior on this forum.” Pointing out the truth, and defending it, is not being judgemental.

For you of all people to suggest anyone to go to confession is funny in itself. Considering you admit to receiving Holy Communion in a Catholic Church, and receiving sacrament at a Mormon sacrament meeting.

I’m sure no confessor would let you get out of reconcilliation with nothing less than,;You can’t do that. I believe any claim you make otherwise to be less than truthful.

Even you can’t be serious with all of this can you?

Threads like this usually complain about “tone”. I think that’s virtually impossible to properly discern. Hence, I believe threads like this are a waste of time. Since I’ve wasted two minutes reading through it I repent of such waste and won’t post again.

CDL

Just because someone doesn’t agree with what you are saying, doesn’t mean they are bashing.

Trust me, this board is much more civil on alot of issues compared to some other “christian” boards, and also over at MAD
Check out this discussion board. Seems the Mormon boards don’t tolerate as well as the Catholic board does.
mormonapologetics.org/index.php?showtopic=34640

This poster was merely stating fact about polygamy being part of Mormon history, and got banned. How tolerant, charitable and Christian is that? By the way, on here, I have never seen a moderator post a diatribe about banning someone. It just gets done, case closed.

No, the poster got banned for blaming the lds church for the polygamous compound. But I am sure that he also received some warnings from other threads.

"What is the purpose of the Non-Catholic Religion section of the forum? "

Apparenty, it is to give non-Catholics space on a Catholic site to bash the religion.

Also, it gives the same people a place to ask a question and then refuse to accept the truth of the Catholic answer.

Do you worship Mary?

No.

Well, since you worship Mary, Catholicism …

You must be reading it upside down or something. That poster isn’t blaming them for the Jeff’s compound. He is mereley stating the fact that polygamy is in the LDS history. It is in LDS history right?

Whether he received warnings or not, prior to his banning, we wil never know. But again, I’ve never seen a moderator her go off on someone telling them they’re banned.

Just another way of censoring the truth, and trying to look superior doing it. Maybe you should post a thread over there similar to this one, asking for it to be shut down.

Just a thought.

I think I have proven my point.

Since my post at 7:52 am, why me has posted a total of 8 times, including starting another thread, but yet, none of them are on this thread. 🤷

lol…I don’t know if you were trying to be funny but that one made me grin.

I love the non-catholic religion board. It’s the place I go to the most - this and Apologetics. It’s the two places I seem to enjoy the most and learn the most from.

It may seem like a haven for bashers sometimes but just know there are a few peaceful non-Catholics out there learning good stuff from it. 🙂

Curious

Just a thought.
From the mormon apologetic discussions board by the poster that was banned:

Yes, but surely you must feel at least some degree of responsibility
for what it happening to these children? Where do you think this group
of people got the idea to impose the practice of polygamy on children
in the first place?** Systemic polygamy is in your pedigree, and you can
never scrape that off. The founders of the religious movement of which
your sect is also a part established the practice among yourselves.

The religious figures that you now honor and revere dug the pit in the
first place, and while your group has since built a fence between
yourselves and that pit, others continue to fall into it. The question
onlookers are now inclined to ask is, ``What are you now doing to fill
that pit?’’**

Many Mormons take the attitude of, ``Systemic polygamy is wrong!
Unless, of course, it is our own sect that decides to practice
it. Then it is okay. But only as long as we say so (or, equivalently,
the god we made up says so).’’ To the degree that your members take
that attitude, the Warren Jeffs sect and the Utah sect of the Latter
Day Saint movement appear to be just two sides of the same
coin. People need to see the Utah sect be more vocal about the
inherent evils of indoctrinating children into polygamy, especially in
the context of isolated communities where people get little or no
opportunity to fully understand and freely choose among the
alternative lifestyles, such as heterosexual monogamy, homosexual
monogamy, or polyandry.

I should make clear that the practice of polygamy in and of itself is
not a bad thing, and consenting and informed adults who practice
polygamy of their own informed volition are doing absolutely nothing
that deserves condemnation. It is the systemic imposition of
polygamous relationships onto children, in the sense of indoctrinating
them and forcefully coercing them to enter into the practice
themselves, that is despicable. Anyone who has done this to children,
past, present, or future, must be censored for that practice, without
exception. (I might add that coercing a homosexual child to enter into
a heterosexual marriage is also wrong, for many of the same
reasons). Any institution that indoctrinates children into this
practice must also be condemned (let us start by denying them their
tax-exempt status). That is the primary reason why I support the
government’s intrusion into the activities of this sect of the Latter
Day Saint movement.

It seems like he is blaming the lds church for what is happening in Texas.

I don’t disagree with a single thing that poster wrote, or with how he stated his POV. It was well-informed and well-written, and it addressed a significant issue without resorting to any personal attack on any participant on the forum. That poster’s only crime was asking some tough questions that obviously the moderator could not handle hearing.

i agree that the post is mildly caustic, but i wouldn’t see it as insulting; i don’t go to that site at all and cannot judge their methods.

however i don’t get the feeeling that the lds sect is being blamed for the jeffs cult. on the other hand, the connextion is obvious to anyone who has read a book.

both sects revere Joseph Smith and think he is a prophet of God. the practice of mormin polygamy has its genesis in the mind of Joseph.

many lds mormons still believe in polygamy at some level and do not hesitate to defend it, as examples of which we may offer up zerinis and two or three others i have observed but whose names i cannot recall, who have defended it most vigorously.

additionally i personally know a mormin man wiht whom i have discussed this subject at some length, and though his justifications for lds polygamy run along the lines of the typical ones, ie they did it because of a shortage of men, he is not at all condemnatory of the practice, and doesn’t seem to notice that other religious sects despite man shortages and other problems never resorted to polygamy as a cure.

I see nothing wrong with the post (I’ve read it several times). He/she is just pointing out LDS history. While the Jeff’s sect is no longer directly linked to the SLC mormons, they do have roots there.

I think what the poster is getting at, is that SLC mormons need to be more vocal, in order to distance themselves from the Jeff’s sect.

As I stated in an earlier post, “That poster isn’t blaming them for the Jeff’s compound. He is mereley stating the fact that polygamy is in the LDS history. It is in LDS history right?.” I also think he is trying to give the SLC mormons some advise.

Again, I see no reason for him/her to be banned for the statements.

As far as being “caustic” or accusatory, how about the moderators statement?

“We are not responsible for other sects. If you’ve got a beef with them, go argue it with them. As for bringing it up here and acting as if we must do something to stop everyone from practicing it, while being rather condescending about it has earned you a ban. We’re not taking flak for something that we aren’t doing. This disrespect will not be tolerated anymore. This is an LDS board, learn who’s field you’re playing on.”

So much for honest discussion without censorship. Yet,you want this forum shut down?

And yet another example of censorship on MAD, within the same thread.

"With all due respect, there are some similarities. Warren Jeffs used “revelation” as a way to coerce people into doing his will, particularly regarding polygamy.

Lucy Walker, in her autobiography, wrote "In the year 1842 President Joseph Smith sought an interview with me (she was 15 or 16 at the time), and said “I have a message for you. I have been commanded of God to take another wife and you are the woman.” My astonishment knew no bounds. This announcement was indeed a thunderbolt to me. He asked me if I believed him to be a prophet of God. “Most assuredly I do” I replied. “It is a commandment of God to you. If you reject this message, the gate will be forever closed against you.” He also insinuated that her family’s exaltation was riding on it too.

She wrote, “tempted and tortured beyond endurance until life was not desirable. Oh that the grave would kindly receive me…Oh let this bitter cup pass. And thus I prayed in the agony of my soul.”

Similar circumstances surrounded Helen Mar Kimball, Sarah Ann Whitney, and others.

Even Emma Smith was threatened if she didn’t comply. (D&C)

This thread will be shut down for Godwins Law if you don’t knock it off. Do not compare any religion to criminals on this message board. Orpheus"

I’m sorry, but if anyone is being persecuted, it’s the non LDS posters over at MAD. They are the one’s who should be asking for the board to be shut down.

Here is just another example of what Why Me does. I find it interesting that one poster on this this particular thread quotes him, but you can’t find the original post.

Also interesting how the moderators let the blatant Catholic bashing go on with noone being banned.

No, his ‘crime’ was that he was insinuating that the lds church is responsible for what happened in Texas or anywhere else where such sects as the FLDS are established. The lds church can do nothing about what is happening in that sect except preach against it and it is doing that.

My thread about the Catholic Answers letter that stated that Mormonism is a threat got a pretty good discussion going over there. And in the end, that is what it is all about. To discuss and talk about why such a letter was written and get opinions about it. Much can be accomplished through talk and dialogue. Or should the two faiths bash each other over the head? 🤷
