What is the reason behind Non-Catholic Christians attacking the doctrines of the Catholic Church?

Disagreement is alright but attacking the is the problem I have. A Protestant can tell me his beliefs that he was taught and he can disagree with the Catholic Church teachings.

However, when that changes to like. “Your church is apostate, you need to leave the CC because it is the harlot. The woman in Revelation 17, etc, or the claimed that “Your church” is adopted pagan rituals.” These claims are based on bias opinions and they are ignorant of the faith. They also gave said they have much to say because they are Ex-Catholics. Really? I mainly receive these arguments from the traditions of the so-called Evangelical, Born-Again Christians, aka Bible Christians or some non-Denomination.

The other Protestants like Lutherans never said anything close to those I mention.
Can you address my point that your threads attack Protestants not Protestant beliefs?

After re reading your OP it appears that you are complaining about online criticism, is that right? If so then this forum is for non-Catholic religions which leads me to believe that those who are nonCatholic will afirm what they believe and debate what they dont. Does that make sense?
If you are refering to offline activities all I can say is I am more in your face about religion than probably 98% of those out there, yet I dont criticise the Catholic Church except when I have made my beliefs known and Catholics become in your face about theirs. Case in point. I visited my aunt several weeks ago and I misplaced my cell phone. When we were looking for it I said my silent prayer to God to ask for His help my aunt told me of a story where a nonCatholic friend lost sombething years ago and she asked St Antony for help and ended up giving $1 to the poor box after she found it. Well I find my cell phone and my aunt says she will put a $1 in the poor box I think well thats her business. She keeps bring up how St Anthony helped find the cell phone and how she will put a $1 in the poor box telling others and continually bringing it up. Finally I said firmly that I had prayed to God that I dont need an intermediator becase of the work that Christ did on the cross and that it was God who helped.

It appears all the threads you start criticise Protestants. Not protestant beliefs but protestants. Do you not believe we are brothers and sisters in Christ?
Protestants are brothers and sisters in Christ. The issue I have with are those “Protestants” who have deep seated “Anti-Catholic views” it is not directed at the entire Protestant group who do not adhere to the belief that the CC is the Whore of Babylon, Pope is the Anti-Christ, CC is paganism, Catholic worship idols, etc.

I have thought about but I decided to remain Catholic. I have not no problems with Eastern Orthodox since I do believe that in the future they will eventually be united with the Catholic.
I find that logic fascinating in that the Pope himself not too long back called the Orthodox “defective.” It reinforces my view that most Catholics in CAF are somehow intimidated or lacking a true understanding of what the Orthodox believe, and for some mysterious reason, pander to them and suck up. But when it comes to Protestants, it’s take no prisoners. Manny, not too long ago you were considering leaving Catholicism altogether, abandoning the papacy, and becoming an Orthodox yourself. Lately your posts all fight for the pope and Roman Catholicism with renewed hardcore zeal. A quick reversion.

Your logic is that the Orthodox, even thought they say that Catholic sacraments and priesthood is COMPLETELY INVALID and worthless, is ok!!? Why? Because they have apostolic succession and seven sacraments. The Orthodox by and large completely reject every belief you have about the papacy, infallibility, universal jurisdiction, and some western theology. They believe that your Eucharist on Sunday is empty bread and your priest has no more power to consecrate than the security guard at Walmart yet you are willing to appreciate them because you think they MIGHT come back “home” to Rome? Don’t hold your breath, brother. They show no signs of it; the only way Rome will tolerate them is if they accept infallibility of the pope, universal jurisdiction, and submit to the pope completely. It isn’t going to happen, probably not even in my grandkids’ lifetime!

On the other hand you have Lutherans and Anglicans who DO believe you have a valid priesthood and sacraments, they have more respect for your Church than the Orthodox do, and you completely cast them off and have admitted in other posts that you can’t stand protestant beliefs. I don’t expect you to accept Protestantism, but I do think it’s interesting that Anglicans accept and respect your validity in your religion, yet the group that utterly rejects it you accept because they are more “Catholicky” in their overall makeup…interesting. And I think your view on this is shared in CAF by many, for some reason.

You never know if LCMS Lutherans or Conservative Anglicans of ACNA, etc. might come back to Rome someday? If you predicate your acceptance on possible future reconciliation, you might want to keep your mind open to these folks as well?

I agree with you. Lunatics who completely reject another denomination are disconcerting indeed. Those who consider Catholics to not be Christians or who think the pope is the whore of babylon are on crack and lack any historical scholarship or brains.

The big difference between the Eastern Orthodox and the Protestants is that the Eastern Orthodox do have valid Apostolic Succession and Sacraments and can trace their beliefs back to Pre-Great Schism (remember that Papal Infallibility had not yet been defined at that point, nor had the modern definition of Papal Supremacy, although, being doctrine, they were true then as they are now, but they had not been formally enunciated then).

The Orthodox, according to this Pope, can rightly be acclaimed as a Church, whereas Protestants (except for the minute number that might have valid Holy Orders and this would be minute, especially with Anglican Holy Order deemed generally invalid [there might be some with validity due to co-consecrations with the Eastern Orthodox and groups like the Old Catholic Church and such who have valid Holy Orders, but this is perhaps greatly offset by so-called ‘female Bishops’ who can neither possess or transmit Holy Orders validly]) are not Churches, but ‘ecclesial communities’. The only valid Sacrament Protestants poss are Baptism (if done in the Trinitarian formula with water and intent to Baptize) and possibly Matrimony.

There is more progress with dialogue with Eastern Orthodox than with Protestants. But that is not the issue here.

If you’re so sure that Tradition is infallible and the Pope is Christ’s vicar on earth, why do you care? You can laugh at all us heretics while we chill in purgatory for a few millenia.
I care because Jesus calls us to unity, and Peter is the symbol of that unity. Those who are not in unity with the successor of Peter are participating in a division that Christ does not want.

Purgatory is outside the space time continuum, so is not subject to “millenia”. It is a state of purification because nothing unclean can enter heaven. Why would I “laugh” at anyone undergoing cleansing? It means they are destined for the beatific vision!

If you, like me, were never Catholic, then you are not considered a heretic.
Jon, you are one of the kindest and most interesting non-Catholic members here at CAF. I very much enjoy your perspective.

You have also made a very good point here. However, there are some Catholics that don’t understand the Catholic Teaching on this as well as you do. 😃
From what I hear Catholics say about Purgatory, the term “chill” may be the opposite of what’s to be expected. 😃

:rotfl:

It is curious …tested with fire…the dross burned out…doesn’t sound very chilly.

Thanks for your nice words. In our Small Catechism, Luther says about the 8th commandment: ]"We should fear and love God that we may not deceitfully belie, betray, slander, or defame our neighbor, but defend him, [think and] speak well of him, and put the best construction on everything." I cannot do that unless I try very hard to listen and understand what Catholics say and your Church teaches.
