I heard that somebody did a study on FaceBook, discovered that some people see it, notice ALL these friends some other people have, which can go up into the hundreds, sometimes, possibly even more.
Take me. I think I have…forget…5 friends? If I were like this, I could go on FaceBook, see my measely 5 friends, begin to think, “Hey, what’s the deal?!”
This is one of the adverse phenomenons with FaceBook in that it leads some people to actually feel WORSE about themselves rather than better. Some people get a kind of compelx, even. If it does that, maybe best to get off, try some other medium, e-mail, Skype, something where one is not expected to compare oneself against others, constantly.
I don’t care in that sense. I have one brother. I see he had “3 friends!” I KNOW he has more, but that’s what it says!
Also, I have a niece with hundreds of friends, but I don’t really think they are “friends” as much as acquaintances. It’d be difficult to have 500 close friends, in my opinion.
I may have 1, 2, better GOOD friends, ones I could call in the middle of the night in an emergency. I’d rather have even one of these than 500 “friends” on FaceBook.
I use FaceBook mainly because others are into it, put pictures on it, want me to see. Otherwise, I prefer e-mail in some ways.
Some people have gotten on CAF, gotten all upset if someone has “unfriended” them!
I admit it. I can’t “keep up with the Jonses”!
Let’s take FaceBook “with a grain of salt”.
