What is the reason why women get so much more attention on facebook?

I take the FaceBook “friends” with a grain of salt. Well, as I say, my brother is VERY popular, but according to FaceBook, he only has 3 mutual friends!

Also, my niece has, I think over 500, but I question that.

I have people who are listed as “friends” who I basically never talk to, don’t really even know. I finally got those off of there, but my truest friends aren’t even on FaceBook!
So, they aren’t even included in the “tally”. They sometimes don’t own, or have access to, a computer. It skews the numbers.

I have other friends that have FaceBook but are so busy with work and school that although they are my genuine friends, they don’t have time to leave many messages.

Also, if you want to judge, think not only “quantity” but “quality” of those relationships.

Also, women are better looking than men (IMHO). People like to comment on and like photos of good-looking people. My wife gets 100+ likes per post, and I get about 5. Yes, she is a lot better looking than I am. 😃 Mystery further solved.
:rotfl:

Some people are also more charismatic, popular.

Estevao,

The answer is simple.

Part of it is men flirting with them. The other part is that for women, exchanging words is like currency; it shows that they care about each other.

Men can be silent toward one another and still be friends. I have a lot of quiet male friends. Men can watch the football game together in relative silence and say, “Wow that was fun; let’s do that again next week.”

When you add women to the party, women are always talking and asking questions. “Why did the ref blow the whistle? Look at that guy’s beanie. Stupid commercial. I like their [the players’] tight butts.”

Have you noticed that women do NOT like dates in which there is relatively little talking? For women, silence is awkward.

But more importantly, talking is currency. It shows that you care enough about her to talk to her. Being silent is the equivalent of rejection for women.

Now, I understand that you’re jealous of the attention women get. It does seem that in this world, women get so much more support, whereas men are left hanging out to dry. Female beauty is worshiped. Schools pay more attention to female students. Family court favors the woman. Special attention is given toward physical safety of females. (But I’m not big and tall; I can’t fare any better!) And thanks to no-fault divorce and abortion rights, women can unilaterally determine the course of their families and blow us off. And in the West, not only do women get equal pay in many fields, they also get to keep their jobs while childbirth is pending. (And before you get angry, please admit that this is a huge economic concession!) Even groups exist for female athletes, female engineers, and female anything, just to encourage mere participation. Meanwhile, masculinity is demonized.

But don’t be jealous, for it is not the man’s role to seek external affirmation. It is your rightful role to become the man that you are supposed to be, without regard for any external affirmation.

I was just doing a google search for “Facebook makes you hate your friends” (wanting to know who to credit for it), but then I noticed how negative all of the autocompletes for “Facebook makes you” are:

Facebook makes you…
sad
depressed
unhappy
dumb
feel bad

Awful!

Anyway, google tells me that the quote I was looking for is, “Twitter makes me like people I’ve never met and Facebook makes me hate people I know in real life.”

I don’t know who said that, but it’s apparently ancient internet wisdom.
Should I get off FaceBook and onto Twitter? 🙂

But where else would we have long arguments about the finer details of free will?

Facebook has a really complicated algorithm that determines who sees what posts and from whom at what time and at what position on each individual news feed. In general, the people who use it the most will be the most visible-especially to those they interact (like/post/share) with often.

I didn’t realize that.

By default you only see a small portion of what your friends post on your news feed. Facebook tries to figure out what you’ll most want to see and shows you that. Posts that get a lot of interaction become more visible. Same with users.
