What is the root of our ignorance? Or who?

This pertains not to all but the majority who claim Christianity as their devotion but outside of the Catholicism.

How is it that we now have in the neighborhood of 60,000 “Christian” denominations in this day we consider ourselves so advanced in intelligence but most of us do not question it. Yet, while most of us know of the basic history of Christianity, that there was and is one Jesus Christ, our Savior, that He founded His one Church, (not churches) still we have 60,000 Christian denominations AND COUNTING all with differences in beliefs and most of us do not bother to search to find out why. We are more concerned finding ways we can ridicule, condemn or pass judgment on the very one that is proven to have been THE Church for 2000 years rather than question, “hey, why is it my church is separated from the oldest Church in the history of Christian faith and why is it my Pastor, Reverend, Minister is so judgmental in his teaching against the Catholic Church? then actually searching for the answers. We can not say that Jesus Himself did not warn us that Satan sought to “sift us like wheat”, that there would be corruption or betrayal among His Church and people and that there would be those who would come in His name and scatter His flock. We cannot say He did not tell us that it would require perseverance in our faith (in His Church of faithful) to find salvation. Granted most of us in various denominations know nothing more than the faith we were raised with, but conscious ignorance in seeking the difference for the truth is no excuse.

If a person belongs to a Christian denomination, do they realize the basis of their faith was founded on that of the Catholic Church? Do they wonder why it is that 99% of the time, the faith they belong to has had something removed from the original teaching? Or that they have been taught, certain sacraments are bogus or not needed and do they question that? After all, if you practice a faith with more sacraments and you sincerely believe and honor them because of your love and devotion of Christ, how can you possibly justify any sacramental practice as a cause of sin when you are taking part in them due to your love and devotion of Jesus and heart felt belief that He gave us these sacraments, that’s absurd. Are they aware the many interpretations are different in their Bible than the original and do they question why?

Lets take the sacrament of reconciliation for an example. No one likes that one, right? How can anyone claim it to be wrong or a benefit to Satan as it is sometimes claimed that people who truly believe in this sacrament take part in it to seek forgiveness for their sins with the intention to repent and avoid continuance of those sins. Even if the sacrament were unnecessary, which it is not, practicing it with sincerity would only enforce one’s devotion to Jesus and counter the objective of Satan. Oh some don’t like it because when it comes right down to it, it is humiliating to confess what sins they committed, yet the very practice of Christianity dictates the practice humility, does it not? And is it not a deterrent to commit the same sins again if one has to confess them again? So why would someone tell you, “ you don’t need this or that, its wrong to practice it so don’t.” Why would you not question something like that? Do they look at the fact that the parts of the Bible missing in their teaching or the difference in their faith’s interpretations has been made by a person in most cases 1500 years after Christ founded His Church and in still more cases that the faith they practice has been once twice, three or more times removed from the Catholic Church? And when will they bother to start looking into these things to find out for themselves why? Many have been taught more intently to resist and condemn the Catholic Church than the true practice of Christianity. Isn’t that curious?
I am not saying all are ignorant to these things but many are. I am not saying anyone is expected to jump from the teachings they have been raised with right into the Catholic Church. What I am saying is each and every one of us has the responsibility to seek the truth, His name is Jesus and He established His Church based on His teachings 2000 years ago. Isn’t it worth a person’s salvation to at least search for the truth? Can you honestly admit you may be one who never considered these things before? I don’t mind asking these things because I was ignorant also, yet raised Catholic.

Intelligence, as you put it, is based on trust.

Everyone generally accepts as true, information from people they trust. If mom and dad are Lutherans, do you ask them why? They love you and you love them. If you ask about Lutheran beliefs, they will explain them to you but odds are, they don’t know why Catholics are Catholics or Methodists are Methodists.

I was involved with a Christian Charismatic group for a while that was not Catholic. I even made friends there. But the ‘big secret’ they had, I was told, was that their group was more doctrinally correct than any other Christian group. There was the answer: We are more doctrinally pure or correct than that other group.

The Catholic Church does seek the unity of the Body of Christ, but it is not just an intelligence issue. It is also a spiritual problem. You are right, the devil, a real being, seeks to divide the followers of Christ and he works primarily through deception.

God bless,
Ed

You are right, and the intelligence factor was not raised to say we lack intelligence but in contrast, that we are not so much inclined to question these things even with the intelligence we do possess. In the sense of being ignorant, it is referred to in the sense of being unaware, not in the sense of refusal to know. As far as being raised in one group or another, we do trust in those who teach us, no question. But many have been fooled and they are not to blame either. It is the “Shepherds” who are accountable. However, there should come a time when the differences should raise questions rather than competitive criticisms if we are truly to consider ourselves Christians and it would be in this case many may learn the Truth. May God guide us all to that point…. 😉
