Those who enthusiastically embrace the OF mass are probably 90% of Catholics, most of whom love the Church and its liturgy, and most of whom give filial religious assent to the teachings of Vatican II. Yes, it is offensive to be labeled “neo” anything, for the connotation is demeaning.

Its particularly annoying when the term is used to describe those that prefer the TLM and still cherish the traditions of the Church, but who accept the new mass and Vatican II as valid and remain obedient to the Pope.

Interchangeable, although FSSPX (Fraternitas Sacerdotalis Sancti Pii X- The Priestly Fraternity of St. Pius X) is their official title. I think SSPX is an acronym for the English title of Society of St. Pius X.

And then to make things even more confusing there is also the FSSP (Priestly Society of Saint Peter) which is a splinter group of the SSPX/FSSPX that is in full communion with the church.

Yeah. I know about the FSSP. That’s why I was confused about the FSSPX. It looks like a hybrid of the two.

The English doesn’t work and confuses. (So what’s new.) Let’s try it this way:

FSSP=Fraternitas Sacerdotalis Sancti Petri
FSSPX=Fraternitas Sacerdotalis Sancti Pii X

and while we’re at it:

ICRSS=Institutum Christi Regis Summi Sacerdotis (not ICK)

You tend to see FSSPX in European (especially French) contexts and SSPX in American/English contexts.

In German, you don’t see either. They are called “die Piusbruderschaft” (The Pius-Fraternity) or “die Piusbrüder” (The Pius-Brothers). Similarly the FSSP is called “die Petrusbruderschaft” (the Peter-Fraternity).
