What is the status of the SSPX?

OK, so how do you explain what I mentioned earlier, the de facto recognition from Rome of the ministry of the SSPX?

It seems to me (God only knows why) that Rome says one thing and does another.
The supposed “de facto” recognition thing is entirely Bp. Fellay’s take on the situation. I trust the judgement of the Holy Father on this one.

If each diocese would meet the spiritual needs of those who want the TLM, including daily Mass, then perhaps people would not go running to the SSPX chapels.

Until each and every bishop embraces SP, those who think the SSPX is a boogey man just need to get over it.

Amazing how those who have no interest in the TLM are the most vocal about other’s spiritual needs. What you people fear, I can’t say, but it’s none of your buisness how other’s practice the Faith. I’d guess that over 90% of traditionalists don’t even post on forums. They just practice the Faith and mind there own.

Why is it so hard for those who know nothing of them to shut up ?

As long as the Society does not have a canonical status in the Church, its ministers do not exercise legitimate ministries in the Church.
Common sense would question this interpretation. Doesn’t the Church include in its “ministries” pro-life Masses and pro-life events, prayer leaders, soup kitchens, hospitals, schools, charities, retreat centers, missions, conversions, cemeteries, etc.? Certainly any (not necessarily) Catholic should be able to engage in these types of ministries, no? I get the feeling that this “in your face” “do not exercise legimate ministries in the Church” has been grossly misinterpreted, especially since the Vatican does permit Mass celebrations in Rome and possibly other areas as well. Does the Vatican say the SSPX can’t lead pro-life events? Isn’t that a “legitimate” ministry?

That’s a dubious assessment Denise. The proof of the de facto recognition is the allowance of former Society Priests who received Ordination from Bishops who are claimed to be falsely by some as schismatics, being allowed to function as Priests in the Church.

There are as many opinions on this forum, as there are people.
Unfortunately, that is true of brother priests as well. This is why I asked for facts; i.e., quotes from official documents which are not always easy to locate.

I really wish old posts could be closed. I see no reason why my post was reactivated after three years. A new thread should have been made.

How many cities or regions would have the SSPX and no TLM? I know there’s an SSPX chapel in my area, but we also have the FSSP and a diocesan priest saying the TLM

Thats not the proper attitude, we look for each other out. Wouldn’t someone who enjoys their happy-clappy Mass say the same thing to you? I mean its true right, most of the people here who are critical of the OF don’t even attend it unless they really have to.
