What is the truth about Christmas?

How do we know christmas is jesus birthday when it was hot on that day and didnt seem like winter?.. I over heard a women at my job shes catholic saying the bible made that up and the bible says things that are not happening or true. also she said that there is not 3 wise men the only reason people say that is because there was 3 gifts. Help me find an answer please
