In one new testament book, I can’t remember which, the author says that there is a sin that is unforgivable. Which sin is the author referring to? And where is the passage " there is a sin that is unforgivable, I am not saying that people should pray about that " or something like this. any info?

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 12:31-32
Therefore, I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven; but whoever speaks against the holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.

How does one blaspheme against the Holy Spirit? and How is that different from Blaspheming the Father and/or the Son.

The word blasphemy come from Greek, and, properly speaking, tit means to slander, curse or show contempt. In the case of the Spirit, this could be to deny it, to despise it or to knowingly and willfully reject it.

We must be precise when talking about blasphemy, which is a very grave matter. Like any grave issue, there are many things that must be taken into account when determining if we have committed the mortal sin of blasphemy or not. Again, to be a mortal sin:
  1. It must be grave matter.
  2. We must have full knowledge of the act and its gravity.
  3. We must give full consent of the will to the act.
Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is not as simple as saying, “I reject you.” In order to blaspheme the Spirit, we must first know the Spirit and even then fully consent to reject Him.

Some may recall a recent string of YouTube videos where young people were asked to record videos of themselves blaspheming the Spirit. Many people took up this offer, but there were many priests and lay faithful that also took this up as an opportunity to respond lovingly and faithfully.

Here’s what the Catechism has to say…

CCC 1864 “Whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin.” There are no limits to the mercy of God, but anyone who deliberately refuses to accept his mercy by repenting, rejects the forgiveness of his sins and the salvation offered by the Holy Spirit. Such hardness of heart can lead to final impenitence and eternal loss.

A way to begin understanding eternal sin is to consider the original eternal sin committed by Satan.

Satan possessed the full revelation of God as it pertained to his state of life from the moment God created him. Satan could not be more intimate with God. Even though Satan knew God fully he still rejected Him. What more could God do?

When Jesus warned the Pharisees of this sin it was because they were receiving the full revelation of God as it pertains to their state of life. God could not be more intimate with them. Yet they still rejected Him. What more could God do? They were in danger of being in an eternal state of rejecting God. This is the unforgiveable sin because it is a changeless state of rejecting God.

Mat 12:31 And so I tell you, every human sin and blasphemy will be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.
Hope this helps

The unforgivable sin could be either attributing miracles done by the holy spirit to Satan, or rejecting the holy spirit’s prompting to repent and believe the gospel.

That’s how I see it.

The highlighted part is correct.

According to the Gospels, attributing the work of the Holy Spirit to the work of Satan is blaspheming the Holy Spirit.

“Assuredly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they may utter; but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation” - **because they said, “He has an unclean spirit.” **(Mark 3:28-30)
