"And he said: Behold Adam is become as one of us, knowing good and evil: now , therefore, lest perhaps he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever.
And the Lord God sent him out of the paradise of pleasure, to till the earth from which he was taken.
“And he cast out Adam; and placed before the paradise of pleasure Cherubims, and a flaming sword, turning every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.” Genesis 3:24

What is the way of the tree of life?

To stop Adam and Eve returning to the garden in Eden. There are 2 Trees in that garden.

The Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ is revealed as the Tree of Life. Therefore, the way of the Cross is the way to the Tree of Life.
 
The Cherubims were guarding the way back into the garden and the Tree of Life. In your translation there you have ‘of’ . It should read ‘to’

24 He drove out the man, and at the east of the garden of Eden he placed the cherubim and a flaming sword that turned every way to guard the way to the tree of life.

1 Corinthians 1:
22 For Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom,

23 but we proclaim Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles,

24 but to those who are called, Jews and Greeks alike, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

Jesus is the second Adam and cursed is he who hangs from a tree Galatians 3:13 Christ ransomed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written, “Cursed be everyone who hangs on a tree,"
There are many scriptures that Jesus fulfilled here.

The first Adam failed God, the second Adam promises eternal life where the first Adam failed God and our humanity.

God simply banned them from immortality, but this immortality involved more than physical life, but spiritual life as well. By Adam’s act of disobedience, which was a denial of God’ authority as God, a denial of His very godhood, IOW, Adam moved himself away from God, and therefore away from life itself. Adam disbelieved God.

Eating from the Tree of Life would’ve amounted to a positive step closer to God. Adam wasn’t ready for that yet. Man must learn of his need for God, to not only in order to exist but to exist in supreme and perfect happiness and wellbeing. God apparently deemed it worthwhile that man should taste of death, of the evil and sin and pain and meaningless that results from separation from Him. Adam thought he would gain from that autonomy. We’re here to learn otherwise.

In John 10:10 Jesus tells us, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.“

Jesus restores us to life by reconciling us with God, so that we may have communion with Him as is the right and just order of things for man. Jesus is that life, “the way, the truth, and the life”. John 14:16

“Apart from Me you can do nothing.” John 15:5
Turning to Him in faith now, finally, is man’s positive step closer to God, to eat from the Tree of Life.

That one word makes a difference in understanding this line of Genesis. If “of” is the correct translation; it makes it sound personal. As if applying to Jesus as “Theosis” is implying in his post. But , if it is “to” then the cherubs are simply guarding a pathway to a place.
 
It sure does make a huge difference. There are a few good online Bibles that also list the way others have translated a passage. They should all have the same meaning to them.
