I know that in Christ’s pre-incarnate state he is called the word of God “who is also God” (Jn. 1:1) what were his purposes being the word? is he a spokesperson of God of some sort? if that’s the case, then why is there are some verses in the OT that suggest Yahweh Himself was the one to speak to the prophets? What was Christ’s exertion being “the word of God”? and ultimately, why is He called “the word of God”?
Christ is indeed the word of God, the Eternal Word of God and he is, was will be, always has been the Word of God. Not just pre-incarnation. One more good scripture to look at is Revelation 19:
12 And his eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many diadems, and he had a name written, which no man knoweth but himself.
13 And he was clothed with a garment sprinkled with blood; and his name is called, THE WORD OF GOD.
He is not called the Word of God because he’s “God’s spokesman”, go back to John 1 for a hint as why this is incorrect:
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
God the father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are all equally God, they are all the same God. So there is no “spokesman”, the closest thing you could find to that are the prophits of old, and Angels (inc prophits).
So what is Christ then? Well he is just that, Jesus
is the Eternal Word of God. If you think about it in Human Terms, Jesus is a thought, and idea, or in other words, a Word, the Word of God. Being Jesus is God the Father’s idea of him self, it is a perfect and complete idea, which shares completely the same nature as God the Father.
