Sometimes in a relationship a person who does something wrong against the other person genuinely doesn’t want the relationship to end. They would actually be deeply grieved if the relationship was to be over. This happens in marriage quite often. What is that desire to stay in a relationship called? Is there a term for it?

Not sure whether you’re talking about ‘remorse’ for one’s actions…

Or a desire for the ‘constancy’ or ‘permanence’ of the relationship…

Or even something else altogether. 🤷‍♂️

More along the lines of the permanence. Not sure exactly the component of a relationship I am trying to identify either.

When we wound a loved one especially someone who loves us deeply, we can experience a sense of loss. Perhaps the loss of their love, innocence, intimacy, or the relationships itself. This can make us recognize in a deeper way the person we wounded. What they mean to us. Ive experienced that. I don’t know if it relates to your experience.

I’m going to take a stab at this and say that it’s called being selfish.
