Each Pope selects the Cross ( I forget the liturgical term at the moment) that represents his pontificate.
Early on, Francis chose one with the Good Shepherd and sheep on it.
There was another, given as a GIFT by a very famous artist in Italy, that no one cared for.
He gets many of these gifts. Out of respect he occasionally uses one of these others.
HE IS NOT CHANGING THE CRUCIFIX.
These are artistic renderings.
Notice hardly two parishes have the identical Crucifix in their sanctuaries.
They have very similar elements, but they are not uniform or identical.
Some parishes have a Risen Christ on the Cross, my former parish had with a large pure white corpus on the cross, this parish where I work now has a carved wood, no colors painted one.
They are all fine, and purely a matter of taste.
I rather like the abstract one. It’s fine People just want to be critical.
Do no chime in or give straction to Pope detractors.
