The word for such a person might be:
bystander
spectator
onlooker
do-nothing

Or such a person might be described as (though many of these words are nuanced and probably miss the mark):
reluctant
passive
averse
aloof
disengaged
detached
laissez-faire
on the sideline

Omission. Jesus spells this out in Matthew 25. Feed the hungry , clothe the naked, etc… I believe that these are some of our most serious sins. We could argue that we don’t have the opportunities to do those things, but I can also be guilty of not looking for those opportunities, and I often am.

I came upon a man who was having a seizure in a remote location in a large city. My cell phone was in my vehicle a couple blocks away in a parking garage. By the time I got there, I had forgotten about the man, until I was about 8 miles away. I had a sinking feeling about this. I did not turn back to see what the outcome was.

I can’t defend my actions. I think I thought it was too inconvenient to turn back, and that someone else had undoubtedly found the man and made the 911 call. For the average epileptic seizure, the man would eventually recover spontaneously. But I deeply regret not going back.

No ones perfect. Everybody makes mistakes. What i find promising however is that you felt guilty about leaving him. At least you are not a psychopath! I commend your honesty. There are plenty of so called Christians who look down on the homeless and scorn people and wish evil on people and they think of themselves as Holy. I’m worried about those people. The sinners who know they are sinners, i trust those people, i would prefer a table with them.

God bless you and thanks for sharing.

Pope Francis speaks much of what you brought up in his ministry. The word is indifference. And to everyone, try placing it in the search box on the Vatican website.
