I am struggling to look for a definition:

What is it called when you are physically attracted to both sexes but have absolutely no desire for the marital act or sexual activity (licit and otherwise)? I’m not speaking about asexuality…per se…but those people that are physically attracted to and have been aroused by members of either sex? Lots of libido…but little desire for either male-female sexual intercourse or any the disgusting inventions they have out there…what is going on there and where could one find help or support?

I have spoken with a priest about and he didn’t seem to understand. He admitted that he had been a priest “for a long time but noone has ever confessed this to me”. I’m feeling really odd here…as it seems I couldn’t get married…because I couldn’t perform. I also then feel that I am barred from the priesthood and religious life because of what resembles SSA…without the sexual part of it…so there’s no worry about not being chaste…is isn’t happening either way.

Help?

Given your disclosed information I certainly “don’t” believe you would fall under some classification of being homosexual just because you have some non-sexual attraction towards the same-sex. Have you ever given some more in depth thought that you do have asexual tendencies? I would say the answer lies within yourself. What is it that makes you attracted to the same-sex? These are questions “only” you can answer?
Wish I could help more. Try answering an Asexuality Test: community.livejournal.com/asexuality/628577.html

Peace Chris.

I like the priest am confused by someone who wants to confess something that is not a sin, nor is it an occasion of sin.

what is going on here? who knows. If words like “disgusting” come to mind perhaps that individual is scarred psychologically in some way and needs counselling. Perhaps that individual is ignorant of the true meaning of marriage and self giving in the sexual acrt, or event of the biology of the act, and simply is in need of education. What is going on depends on the individual. There are plenty of people who simply are not called to married life, and a disinterest in or disinclination for the marital act may be one sign to thelp them discern their state in life. It also sounds as if this person–like probably 90% of people out there–need more education on exactly what is SSA, what is homosexuality, what is the homosexual inclination, and what is the “gay lifestile” since these are by no means all the same thing.

This is an interesting connundrum because my girlfriend confided in me some time ago about something similar to this except that she’s a happily married woman. She’s not Catholic but does have a rich spiritual life as a protestant.

This came about when we were discussing our faith and sexual behaviour while adhering to our faithful beliefs. We discussed openess to children, then it jumped to homosexuality.

Her problem is similar in the sense that she’s very much in love with her husband and enjoys intercourse with him yet she cannot climax unless thinking of non-existent women. I suppose she means imaginary women?

With all of this, she also told me that in real life, she has no attraction to women in a sexual way so she’s been very confused about why her fantasies go in a different way. What she did tell me was that probably she tries to separate her own climax from her body and transfers it to some imaginary woman and situation. I have to wonder if she’s feeling shame for her own pleasure?

I couldn’t advise her because I also don’t understand it. I can’t imagine that what she has is SSA when she has no desire for that in “real life”? I’m stumped (and we haven’t discussed this for several years so I don’t think I’ll go back and open the discourse up again)

I think the most puzzling part of this is the fact that I do get aroused by others…but I have no desire in the actual marital act or in any of the deviations from it. I might be physically attracted to another’s physical body…with the exception of the hidden areas…in which I honestly have little interest in. So sexual desire isn’t absent in me…but the desire for actual sexual activity or seeing certain parts of the human body exposed are completely absent in me.
