Consider yourself lucky. I wish I had access to that type of education when I was young. Hopefully you are discerning a vocation too. We need priests. How’s your Latin?
I am not that young. (I am nearly 40). I am discerning a vocation. Which means if I finish my MA in Theology, I will be about 45 or so when I would be ordained. I have never tken a day of Latin, but I have started picking up a smattering of it at the EF. Is anyone familiar with an inexpensive (or FREE) online course?

There are some really good responses here and I think a lot of them touch on various aspects of what has caused a downfall of overall respect in deportment at Mass. But if I had to put it to a list off the top of my head, a few contributing factors I would blame are:
  1. Ignorance/poor catecheses which stems from:
    a. Political correctness, which comes from:
    1. Subjectivism, which comes from:
      i. Liberalism, which comes from:
      (a) French Revolution.
Then again, I just like blaming the Enlightenment as being the basis for most of the degeneration both in society and in the Church. 👍

And being in the UK it comes naturally to blame the French.

There is a Latin Resources sticky atop this thread. If you reach out to your nearest Una Voce chapter I’m sure they would like to help out.

We are roughly the same age. If I hadn’t met my wife a couple years ago and with the recent discovery of a local EF I’m certain I would have at least applied to the FSSP seminary.

I checked into the FSSP, but, alas, I am beyond their age limit.

So when you ask, “should that translate to worship as well,” I’d say that if you’re asking whether we’d like it to, the answer is no; and if you’re asking whether we should expect it to, the answer is, unfortunately, of course we should.
Now I understand what you are saying. Thanks for the details.

The truth is that it is awfully confusing why we make this age old mistake of forgetting ourselves and adopting societal values. Especially since Christ called us to be leaven for the world not the other way around. That’s what happened with the People of God when they started mingling with the pagan nations around them. Solomon married hundreds of wives and adopted their customs in his reign to foster peace and prosperity instead of converting those nations and giving them truth and right worship. We have not gone so far, but its scary. God called Israel the harlot after all.

Skimpy shorts (or other inapprpriate attire, like tank-tops, miniskirts, torn jeans, etc) at Mass?
Rock bands playing “hymns”?
Chit-chat before and after Mass?
No genuflecting?
short confession lines and long communion lines?

I won’t accept blanket statements blaming Vatican 2 or the Novus Ordo. I want specifics. What has happened to the faith of the Church?
I can easily leave out blame on the NO and VII. Pure and simple, what you see in a parish happens with full consent of the pastor.

Why are people lukewarm ? They are a product of their upbringing and what they hear from the pulpit.

Why would a priest tolerate it ? If he’s young, he was probably raised in such an environment and knows no better. He too is a product of his upbringing.

So if we can excuse such from a priest and laity for those reasons, where do we lay the blame ? Apostasy ?
