The spirit of Vatican II was the liberal way it’s documents were interpreted by liberals and modernists. The spirit led to this because it led to wrongul interpretations of certain documents and thus reduced the faith of many Catholics leading to a drop in vocations and thus - less priests to administer communion. How does the spirit of Vatican II led to these? What is the spirit of Vatican II if I may ask? Thanks.
John XXIII called the council but Paul VI completed it.John XXIII did not call the council as far as I can remember. It was Paul 6. Or maybe I am too young to remember.
The drop in vocations was after the Council. Thr true disaster was that these trends occured just after the council when many Catholics were not sure about their faith. That was why the old Pius XII orthodoxy was needed in the 1960s and the council could have waited for better times. How do you account for the drop in vocations in the 60s? If you do not see the changes in people mentality due to what’s happening in the 50s and the 60s, would not that be not seeing the sign of times? What about the birth control phenomenon and sexual promiscuity of the sixty through new introduction of technology and the affect of an unpopular war? It would be naïve to think that the mighty fifty would not change in the sixties whether there is Vatican council or not.
The documents on other religions while harmless and not in contradiction with Catholic doctrine was interepted wrongly by the spirit.
