what is worse, not telling someone that they are sinning, or causing them not to convert to christianity, because sometimes telling someone they are wrong discourages them to seek out the Church.

I think the former is worse though because not telling is a sin of omission and even if it leads to good, no evil is to be done that leads to good.

If you don’t think you can cause them to convert I wouldn’t tell them anything. How can you cause them not to convert other than you telling them their wrong? Its not necessarily sinful (omission) if you don’t correct someone who is doing wrong. If you saw some boys smoking do you think you would be committing a sin of ommission if you didn’t go up to them and say"boys don’t smoke its a sin"?Most people know that they are sinning when they do wrong.telling them won’t do any good.Might just make them mad and that’s worse than telling them to stop sinning.

If you want to go down that path of even bringing up the subject, how about just telling them WHY it is wrong in such a manner that doesn’t come across as preachy.

For example, the passive agressive way I get non-Catholics to understand that contraception is wrong, by starting out with the wonders of NFP and its effectiveness, and then move on to how contraception destorys marriage by rendering each person in the union as a piece of meat to teh other and limits conversation and communication et al.

Telling someone they are wrong or are “sinning” isn’t effective any more. this isn’t the time when fire and brimstone put people off, we need to be informative, with both science and God involved.

So what’s the worst sin? Not giving the whole truth, the truth and nothing but the truth, but it must be given in snippets, its too much info for one person in one foul swoop.

So what is the worse sin? I think one of you says that putting people off is worse and the other says that not telling the truth is worse?

Actually the first poster said that omission isn’t a sin in this case but I just feel that if you see evil and don’t correct it when you could, then that has got to be wrong.
