What is worship to you?

Good morning all

I was curious as to what worship meant to people of different denominations (or religions). I have posted a poll and if i missed something that would pertain to you please select other and describe. Thank you:thumbsup:

Friends believe very much in the worship of God. We are called to “enter into Meeting” every day as individuals or as family and corporatly each First Day.

Worship is a time of quieting the “voices” of the world and Centering our hearts and minds upon our Creator. Lifting our hearts and at times our voices in joyful thanksgiving and recognizing His Presence in our lives and His Presence in our world. True Worship always is coupled with service to those around us…“If we say we love God and hate our brother, then the truth is not in us…”

Worship can consist of serving in a food line at the local resuce mission…volunteering at an AIDS house or hospice. Taking an elderly neighbor to their doctor appointments or drying the tears of a frightened child.

Worship of God takes on various aspects…our lives are to be…well to use the words of a contemporary Christian song…"… can live a mirror of his mercy, a forgiven image of His grace."

Woship is “love the Lord your God with all your heart…and your neighbor as yourself”…

Worship is me looking at Divinity and Divinity looking at me. It is understanding that I don’t understand and knowing that I don’t know. It is knowing that my knowledge of the Divine is a mere thimble of water compared to the ocean and that when I pass to the next life, salvation is less about theology and religion and being able to accept Divinity as It Is, rather than what I What It To Be.

I liked your response…it reminds me of George Fox’s vision of “an Ocean of Light and Life covering the ocean of darkness and death.” To be humbled before the Creator IS indeed powerful.

Other: It’s a combination of obedience, love, adoration, etc. towards God. All we do can be a form of worship if it’s pleasing to God. The things mentions can be worship or can be nothing more than ‘filthy rags’ to God. It depends upon our hearts: are they after God for His glory and honor? If so, it was worship.

For Catholics it is the Sacrifice of the Altar that is the truest, purest form of worship, for without sacrifice there is no such thing as worship. Prayer alone is not worship, helping others (as laudable and right as it is) is not worship, and so on. Because we have let the word be redefined for any and all beliefs, it has become useless as a word, as we can see in this thread. But, real worship involves offering a sacrifice. By offering the Eucharist we are offering the very best we can–the very body and blood, soul and divinity of Christ. All other offerings can only be spiritual sacrifices, which are right, good, and proper, but they are not quite the same thing.

According to what I have been taught, it is impossible to please God outside of Jesus Christ. So, if what we are doing does not coincide with what Our Lord would have us do, it is in vain. I don’t wonder if that is what is meant by the Scirpture when it talks about all our works being “burnt away”, and only what was made holy by God remaining. A very profound thought.

It would be necessary to have a very close and intimate relationship with Jesus Christ to be able to discern His Will in how we live, is my guess. This is enhanced expotentially by worthy reception of His Body and Blood no doubt.

I get it, now. Thanks to the OP for bringing it up.

Not that this needs response, but that should make catholics the most loving, godly evangelistic and maturest believers on earth…I live in and Italian Catholic area and I don’t find that to be the case…To be honest, I know alot of christians, catholic and non catholic and the most godly person I know is a protestant…To me it’s not about catholic, protestant, orhtodox, but a passionate desire to love Christ and be obedient to His will…

What do you now follow me around… … He made a comment that you guys sorta have an “in” because of the way you believe…I just commented if that’s the case you all should be way above us in spiritual maturity…Was not " judging" people just an observation…Wouldn’t that benefit be observable ? Why are you so critical of my comments…

Yes, well, I do stand corrected, however these are Catholic Answer forums,and I must admit to being over sensitive to, what I sometimes consider,shaded anti remarks from visiting posters.

Do you feel YOU have an in? Are you as loving as you should be? Not on these forums, you aren’t. Am I correct about the relationship with Jesus, or are you just interested in finding another way to “stick” it to the Church?
