what is you church's teaching on predestination?

Im interested in the various denominations (Christian including Catholic, hope that doesnt offend my Catholic friends I couldnt think of a way to say it that wouldnt bother someone:blush:) positions on predestination. My specific interest is in what I believe Calvinists call “limited atonement”, that Gods grace was only available to the elect, and the rest were predestined for hell with nothing they could do about it.

I personally believe that we are all drawn to God, that is, by grace, given the gift of faith. We cannot choose Jesus on our own, we must be drawn to him out of his loving mercy. We are, however, free at that point, to either continue draw towards him, or reject the gospel entirely.

I also wouldn’t say that salvation is assured. Once Saved Always Saved does not make sense to me. We must persevere in the faith by keeping close to God.

I guess this would be Classic Arminianism.

I am nominally of the Assemblies of God, by the way.
 
I think I understand the concept. If God knows everything, then it follows when He creates each of us, He already knows how we will live our lives and our final destination. In other words He created us with that destination already in the cards. But I have to live my life as if I have free will.

I agree that we can not come unless He first draws us, but then the question would be: Are there those whom He does not draw?

So if I understand your position. He knows our destiny but does not choose it.

Faith matters can be complicated as to the specifics. But I suppose that is what I am saying. I had a Protestant pastor tell me once it’s a good topic to discuss over a cup of coffee but who really knows. 🤷.

No. Prevenient grace is for all men. God gives us the seed, faith, it is up to us, at that point, whether we choose to go forward or not. I believe that grace is definitely resistible.
