Was always curious as to why one picked that certain Confirmation name.

Madeline; in honor of Mary Magdalene. She stayed by Jesus at the foot of the Cross & didn’t abandon him.

I chose mine because her life’s work was similar to mine and her story really spoke to me.

Jude: I wanted to be a ER doctor at the time and thought I would pray to him to intercede for my patients who were dying in the ER since he is the patron of hopeless/impossible causes. Now, I’m applying to the seminary and like to think of myself as an impossible cause, so very weak and unable to do any sort of good without God’s grace. So his patronage reminds me to be humble in that way and to look to God for everything that I need (and I need a lot!). 🤣

I didn’t get to choose my confirmation name. I was told it had to be my sponsor’s name and I was forced to have my sponsor because “family tradition.” I wanted then BL. Kateri but I was told nope, has to reflect your sponsor and HAS to be a saint.

At the time, I was so poorly catechized I had no objections.

Once I learned about my faith, I picked one of the Saints of the Americas, St. Kateri! I consider her my patron and my confirmation saint. Given I had no choice I don’t think the Church would object.

In preparation for confirmation, I was interviewed by a nun that I had never before met. She asked me for what saint I would like to take my confirmation name. My recollection is that I said, “St. Theresa.” However, she asked me, “St. Theresa of Avila or Saint Therese, The Little Flower?” Honestly, I didn’t know the difference, but I replied, “The Little Flower.” The nun smiled at me and said, “Good choice.”

Since then, I have come to believe that Saint Thérèse of Lisieux chose me because she has been an inspiration and a comfort.

I chose John, after John Bosco. There were two main reasons. Firstly because I have always been involved in youth work and secondly because I admire his trust in divine providence to get where God wanted him, not where he wanted to be.

Ambrose, for no other reason than his feast day is on my birthday. It was only years later that I discovered how appropriate the choice was on many other levels. Definitely a huge blessing.

I didn’t use a “confirmation name”, but was rather confirmed with my given name which was also my baptismal.

Why didn’t I choose a different name for confirmation? Since Confirmation completes Baptism, using my baptismal name maintained the linkage between these twinned sacraments.

You are fortunate. My given name is not Christian, nor was I given a patron saint at my Baptism.

Joseph, because he is the patron of the Catholic Church and a model father, which I wanted to be someday.

Mine is Sebastian. I like to think that I Aquinas (my baptismal saint) helps me with my thinking while Sebastian helps me with my physical duties. Not that I’m very good at either but you never turn down help. 😁

Hubertus: I love the forests. God created to be very beautiful. They have a very tranquil feeling to them. I also would like to try hunting sometime.

Therese. I loved her from primary school, and read her “Story of a Soul” repeatedly.

I chose Joseph for several reasons. it was my Dad’s confirmation name, and I chose Joseph also because he was married to the perfect woman, and I often wondered how he dealt with that. I can only imagine what a mirror she was to his every imperfection.

Thomas. I can’t remember ever not believing in Jesus. But, at the time of my confirmation I didn’t understand a lot of things about the faith. I doubted the Sacraments
