Apple crumble, served with creamy vanilla ice cream, the crumble being my own recipe.
For family events I’m asked to make a larger apple crumble
and/or chocolate caramel slice.

I was thinking about gingerbread cookies a lot today at work.
You would NOT get on in Germany lol! I was talking to a German family at church last month and, since I was going shopping, offered to buy some sweeties for our kids. I mentioned gingerbread and they said “the stuff we have at Christmas? But it’s August!”

Cat, have you tried the Trader Joe’s Triple Ginger Snaps? I’m not even a huge gingersnap fan, but those are some of the best store-bought cookies I’ve ever had.

For me I’d have to say pie. I make homemade pies all fall and winter. I got it from my mom, who got it from my grandmother (whose pies still top both of ours - I am still trying to get close to her apple pie). Apple, cherry, chocolate cream (cook n serve pudding plus real whipped cream), blueberry, custard, really anything.

Not being American, I don’t really ‘get’ the pie thing, although I like a good pie as much as the next person 😃

Summer Fruits Pudding (with cream) and
Eton Mess
both have a false air of healthiness because of the fruit, so extra large helpings are required.

Rhubarb cake and
Baked Alaska
are my favourites, although I couldn’t honestly say the rest of my family are overly enamoured. However, she who does the cooking chooses the recipe!

Mmmm.

Pumpkin Pie
Apple Pie
Carrot Cake
Anything with Chocolate
I’m not picky with sweets though so pretty much anything is ok except marzipan or mincemeet.

I vote for pie. I grew up in a farm community where women were judged on their ability to make a good pie crust. Pies were a great way to use all the apples, rhubarb, cherries, and so on. Custard and cream pies were a delicious use of all that milk you had in the spring when the cows came fresh.

Are we going to do recipes?
Yes, that’s my paternal side. My stepmom was known throughout the county for her pie crust. They used to have pie suppers all the time. Young men fought over her pies.

As for me, the question was, “What is your family’s favorite dessert?” But when I got to the poll, it asked, “What is YOUR favorite dessert?”

MY favorite dessert is cookies. Anything except chocolate chip, which for some reason, I just don’t care for right now. My very favorite is a good oatmeal raisin, warm and made with butter. But a close second are these. Greek Honey Cookies They are TO DIE FOR!!! They practically melt in your mouth. I have no idea how many calories is in each one and I don’t want to know!!!

Now, the rest of the family - will eat pretty much anything sweet, but their favorite is probably cake AND ice cream with full cream on top! Yes, they are all skinny males. No, we don’t indulge in that combo every day. Hubby eats some candy or cookies or whatever is on hand. Kiddos eat ice cream if I have it. For special occasions I will bake a gluten-free cake and serve ice cream and cream with it. Hubby also puts cream on pie.

You haven’t lived until you’ve had chocolate cake with full cream poured all over it. mmmm-mmmmm-mmmmmm.

👍

I voted for pie. I am truly blessed in that my wife, among other things, is a world-class baker. Her strawberry-rhubarb pie is beyond description!!

Ah, that sounds really good right now. 😛 I love Rhubarb!!!

Carrot Cake at a local restaurant.

At home we keep Kefir in the freezer and put Ghirardelli chocolate chips on it for a quick dessert.
