Dream Theater* 👍 I grew up listening to Yes, Rush, Queen, Pink Floyd…I discovered Dream Theater almost 20 years ago and they blew me away. Amazing musicians and writers. They are progressive and are strongly influenced by the bands I grew up with.As a bonus, it dawned on me after listening to them that they are influenced by thier faith a good deal (although not a Christian band). Thier most prolific writers are John Petrucci, who is Catholic, and Mike Portnoy, who is Jewish. Thier original keyboard player (Kevin Moore) was also Catholic. He designed a band logo based on the Sacred Heart (which totally went over my head at the time). They write frequently about thier faith - about friends dealing with crises of faith, etc.But that’s all just a bonus. They are amazing musicians who refuse to follow the format for radio success. After some criticism from music execs and media, talking about how they need to write shorter, “radio friendly” songs, they replied with the “Scenes From A Memory” album… which is one track around 70-ish minutes. Broken up into acts of course, heh. Here’s a sampling of some lyrics from a couple of my favorites…From “Scarred” by Petrucci:"People in prayer for me** everyone there for me*** Sometimes I feel I should face this alone*** My soul exposed*** It calms me to know that I won’t*** Blood…Heal me*** Fear…Change me*** Belief will always save me"From “Lines In The Sand” by Petrucci:"Sometimes, in the wreckage of our wake*** There’s a bitterness we harbor*** And hate for hatred’s sake*** Sometimes we dig an early grave*** And crucify our instincts*** For the hope we couldn’t save*** Sometimes a view from sinless eyes*** Centers our perspective*** And pacifies our cries*** Sometimes the anguish we survive*** And the mysteries we nurture*** Are the fabrics of our lives"From “Glass Prison” by Portnoy:“Way off in the distance I saw a door*** I tried to open*** I tried forcing with all of my will but still*** The door wouldn’t open*** *** Unable to trust in my faith*** I turned and walked away*** I looked around, felt a chill in the air*** Took my will and turned it over*** *** The glass prison which once held me is gone*** A long lost fortress*** Armed only with liberty*** And the key of my willingness*** *** Fell down on my knees and prayed*** “Thy will be done”*** I turned around, saw a light shining through*** The door was wide open”*Good stuff 🙂

This is fun!!! I don’t have just one favorite though.
  • U2 (I just can’t get enough of them - I love all of their albums)
  • The Beatles
  • The Smiths
  • Depeche Mode
  • Radiohead
  • Niyaz
I have a lot of favorite solo artists, but since their not a “band” per say, I’m leaving them out.

oh i love the beatles!!

Very tough question… I love so many. If I had to pick just one it would be Great Big Sea, without a doubt. … but I also love The National Apathy Party, The Arrogant Worms, Critical Mass, Relient K, Skillet, Green Day, and way too many others. 😊

omg!!! i love Sgt.pepper and abbey road,i also like John Lennon alot 2
Yeah Lennon’s awsome. I just got the Lennon Legend cd. Pretty good stuff. What about Mccartney? Listen to any of his post-beatles stuff? Entirely different feel then Lennon’s stuff but i think it’s good, especially maybe i’m amazed and live and let die.

Hard to say… I think I like John’s solo act better, although i don’t really like the way he recorded his music, you know, so it sounded like he was live all the time? But i think i like paul’s beatle songs better than john’s beatle songs.

During my teen age years, Tesla, Van Halen, AC/DC, Loverboy, Ratt
Today my favorites are Sam Bush, Billy Joel, America, Jars of Clay

No i’m only 16 but i hear you about the friend thing. My friends don’t like rap as much, but they like techno and punk and all. I don’t mind punk, i have about every cd green day ever released, but still, it’s not the Beatles.
