Would it be completely crazy to have a thread all about birds and anything on the topic of birds? Probably.

But I will make one, anyways, because some of you could possibly be more “out there” than I, although it is doubtful.

I saw this video on crows and ravens since I was wondering how to tell them apart, it’s pretty interesting, but just FYI, this is not one of those threads. The video is just a side note if you’re interested.

(Consider me and others who are arguably more out there than I, as the Wilbur and Orville of CAF, not all of our endeavors get off the ground, but we keep plugging away. ) 🙂

We have many more crows here on the west side of L.A. now than we did when I was growing up 50 years ago. Other types of birds, like blue jays, I never see anymore. One of the more annoying noises for me is the loud, incessant cawing of a fledging crow begging its parents for more food! 😠 I even see crows mingling with seagulls on the sand at the beach now, which is something I never saw before.

Why is that? Did crows and seagulls generally not tolerate each other in the past.

Blue Jays probably got a clue and moved on when the air quality fell below acceptable levels.

Crows are highly resilient in all kinds of environmental changes I think.

Doves and Geese do not like me. They have each pooped on me.
Owls have hooted back to me.
Peacocks…are Peacocks.
Emu seemed pretty curious.

There just weren’t that many crows here years ago.

Another “newcomer” here is the great blue heron. Since we starting better preserving our local wetlands, I see all sorts of waterfowl.

The blue jays I used to see were scrub jays, not as handsome as stellar’s jays or the bird in your photo.

I’m sorry to learn of your misfortune Kathleen. Perhaps you did something to antagonize them.

(Tobit in the Old Testament had even worse run-ins with birds.)

I had the misfortunes of avian bodily functions concurring with my ambulations.

About 20 years ago, I fed birds in my backyard for about 2 years during bad winters and a droughty summer. I kept a journal but it’s packed away (and now I want to find it!) Every type of bird in my area showed up, including hawks in the winter. The number of different kinds of birds and their habits were fascinating! I had no idea there was such a variety of birds where I live.

I saw too many little birds swooped down on and disappear in a hawk’s talons. It always shocked me. The Crows and Bluejays would often be the guards and alarm system when hawks were sighted. They’d scream and make a racket and often chase after a hawk. The little birds would fly away if they could and become totally silent.

Songbirds hung out in groups of their own kind but I’d often see a mix of cardinals, finches, doves and other little critters together in little groups, chirping away!

My favorite little woodland birds always traveled in groups: nuthatches, tiny woodpeckers, titmouses and other little birds, including:

my favorite bird, the black capped chickadee, a very cute, cheery, friendly, smart and curious little aviator.

Chickadees are so cute! We have a big red headed woodpecker around here too. Always fun to see him.

A very difficult question, I think I like most birds .
I like Australia’s brolgas ,they are kind of rare and mysterious …and funny.
Sorry about the music 😅

Really is amazing and awesome, the many and diverse species of birds God has fashioned.
