I really liked Esther and Daniel. 🙂
Oh, I love the book of Esther!

My favorite old testament book would probably be Psalms (73 is my favorite).

My favorite new testament book would probably be the Gospel according to Mark. In the story of the rich young man coming to Jesus, Mark is the only one that includes “Jesus looked at him and was filled with love for him” before Jesus gives His reply. Telling him to sell everything sprang out of His love for the rich young man.

Oh, be still my heart! He loves me! ❤️❤️

Jonah. I love how the message of God’s mercy is bound up with the comical behaviour of a sulking Jonah. Sometimes a good reminder not to take ourselves so serious or just become prophets of doom.

I find Job and Psalms to be among my LEAST favorite books due to their ‘unchristianity’ for lack of a better word. I’ll add Esther to that list also.

But God wants them there to tell us something so they do serve a purpose.

Lets keep in min Jesus spent half his time warning people of evil and how it operates. Even in the desert, Satan Himself demonstrates to us first hand what weapon he uses against Christ in order that he fall away to his death (and prophetically, his same tactic will be used against us).

I like Sirach because it is filled with wisdom and sound advice that is valid to this day.

I chose the Book of Tobit. And I am assuming you’re allowing me to pick my favorite version which is in the Douay-Rheims Bible.

This is the same version of Tobit St. Jerome used. I like it because it is more clear than the version of Tobit The New American Bible uses.

See the difference in the link below.

Ecclesiastes and Genesis

New Testament
John
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.[a] 2 He was in the beginning with God; 3 all things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness,[c] and the darkness has not overcome it.

Other because I can’t decide.

Even the less popular books - Maccabees, Ruth, Esther, Obadiah, Philemon - have good lessons to learn and are important.

For Christians, the Gospels take pride of place. Next is the Psalms and the Torah. Next would be the major Prophets… But all 73 books are equally inspired and important.

Matthew…without a doubt. I didn’t grow up in the Church, so I was unfamiliar with even liturgical readings. But something… or someone shall we say guided me to the Gospel. And I don’t think I put it down once on that first reading. My whole world changed. It’s my real book of “Genesis” if you will 😃

My favorite Old Testament book is Leviticus
Reading Leviticus as a Catholic was so edifying for me. The entire book is basically a foreshadowing for the Sacrifice of the Mass. As a Protestant, it was the book that stopped people from reading the whole Bible through; as a Catholic, it was the book that served as a catalyst for delving into liturgical richness that manifests itself in Christ and His perpetual Eucharistic Sacrifice. 🙂
