What Is Your Favorite Christmas Movie?

I’m a big fan of “A Christmas Carol” the one with George C. Scott
 
I like White Christmas.
I also like It’s a Wondeful Life.

These two are not normally considered Christmas movies, but they both are taking place on Christmas Eve:

Die Hard and Die Hard 2.

All of that swearing aside, no two movies have delivered Christmas with such a “bang” like these two have!
 
I love this thread - getting me in the Christmas mood!

We are utter and complete “White Christmas” nuts in this house. My two (now grown) daughters both love it, and it’s dear to my heart because it portrays Christmastime in New England, where I grew up (very different from down here in extreme southern Alabama.)

Last year, just before New Year’s, our then still-single younger daughter, dh and I were returning from visiting with older daughter and her in-laws, and stopped at Rosemary Clooney’s home/now museum in Kentucky. I thought my daughter would explode, she was so excited. They had on display one of the “Sisters,Sisters” blue dresses and fan, the red bathrobe she wore in the “Counting My Blessings” scene…you get the picture. I’m attaching a photo taken there. (For one of her gifts last year, dd received a copy of the original White Christmas script (different from the final version) that I found on ebay.

I also love Holiday Inn (the movie in which “White Christmas” was introduced), Christmas Story, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever (hilarious!) and any religious-themed movies about the Nativity. I adored the Bing Crosby, Andy Williams and Perry Como Christmas specials; I was QUITE young when they were on 🙂

Time to get out the White Christmas DVD!!!

Does anyone remember “a Christmas Memory” by Truman Capote? There was a made-for-tv version, just shown a couple of years and then it disappeared. It was the sweetest story about his childhood holidays with a developmentally slow cousin in a rural area and her annual ritual for fruitcake-making.

THE HONEYMOONERS,I LOVE LUCY ,THE ODD COUPLE etc…

uh, I just got done setting a lot of these to record on TIVO, and I am only 60. I can’t remember from the titles if I have seen them, like them, or will enjoy them, but I will know within the 1st five minutes if they are any good or not. Also I keep them for my MIL who will be here and loves all of them. She is 89.
 
I’m with the other two that posted my favorite: A Christmas Carol with George C. Scott. I like the Alistair Sim one, too.

My favorite isn’t a movie - just a memory re-played in my head. My dearly beloved Grandma, reading the Christmas Story from Luke to my sister and me. I noticed one year that she had her hands on the pages - she was really reciting it from memory. The smell of balsam fir and steam heat brings this back like it was yesterday.

“It’s a Wonderful Life” – which is usually on Christmas Eve, so I have many fond memories of last-minute decorating while it’s on.

The Chuck Jones version of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”.

The version of “A Christmas Carol” featuring George C. Scott – of all the ones I’ve seen, this one follows the book the closest, making it a much darker movie.

“A Charlie Brown Christmas” – Nothing beats Linus reciting St. Luke’s account of the Nativity.

Does anyone remember the Rankin-Bass stop motion animated special “Nestor the Long-Eared Donkey”? I saw it once when I was a kid – it’s sort of the “Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer” story rewritten to tell the story of the donkey who carried Mary to Bethlehem – and one of the most touching images was the Holy Family on the flight into Egypt, getting hit by a sandstorm, so Nestor flips his long ears over Mary and the Christ Child to keep the sand off them. :: Goes to look for a YouTube of this::

At Christmas it’s ok - no, GOOD - to be soppy, no matter what age you are! Sentimental tear-jerkers and heart-warmers are what it’s all about!

The Albert Finney version of Christmas Carol-- called ‘Scrooge’, sadly enough. Otherwise, first rate: you both understand how Scrooge got that way, and believe his transformation when it happens.

Ghost of Christmas Present gives him a drink which he likes very much, asks what it’s called.

“The Milk of Human Kindness” answers the Ghost.

“I’ve never tasted anything like it”, says Scrooge…
