there is a little cartoon with no dialog, just Judy Garland (I think) singing Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas (my favorite secular carol). The action is a little bunny lost in the snow who finally finds his home. Or maybe the song is I’ll be home for Christmas? I haven’t seen it in years, but it is darling and sniff sniff tissue worthy

“Silent Night” for another WWII movie setting in Germany (… actually filmed in Quebec.)

Actually “Merry Christmas/Joyeaux Noel” is WWI and “Silent Night” is WWII. Small error in my posting. “The Christmas Card” about the soldier who received a Christmas Card (not letter though it included a letter, which he received while serving in Afghanistan.) Soldiers and Christmas movies.

Somewhere in time (about 45-50 years ago), I used to have a copy of The Littlest Angel.

BTW, if you’re ancient (40+) then I’m near dirt’s age… 😊

I remember that with the little red haired kid from Family Affair, Johnny Whitaker. I’ve thought of it through the years at Christmas wondering if they were going to ever play it on some nostalgia channel, but I’ve never seen it. I found a picture of it and didn’t remember it was a musical with Fred Gwynne (Herman on the Munsters), of all people. Here’s a picture and a list of the songs: (the funny thing is I do remember a line from a song Johnny sang on Family Affair complete with the thumping piano accompaniment and have sung it to my nephews when I’m trying to be funny…“Every little boy wants to be President, to be President, of the U-nited States, U-nited States, of America.”)

For fans of the Jesus of Nazareth miniseries, it’s being run evenings this week on TBN. Part 2 is tonight. Love the soundtrack. TBN’s flaky, but they do run some good movies.

I don’t really have a favorite Christmas movie. The closest thing I can think of is “A Child’s Christmas in Wales” recited by the poem’s author, Dylan Thomas – this was often broadcast in some form or another on public television when I was growing up, although obviously it’s first and foremost a poem or story and not a movie. We also had an lp of it. (Ironically, I’ve since learned that Dylan Thomas wasn’t a particulary nice person, and not religious either, but be that as it may …)

I would recommend a little-known black-and-white holiday classic, “The Bishop” imdb.com/title/tt0039190/with Cary Grant, Loretta Young and David Niven. I can’t say it’s a favorite because I’ve only seen it once, but I enjoyed it very much.

Hi, Mom-Judi! How’re you doin’ today? Yeah, I’m a sucker for all things Christmas. Can’t help it; it’s a sickness.

Avoid “The Snowglobe” at all costs. It’s one of those low-budget movies on ABCFM evenings this week. It’s sooooo stupid. In fact, there should be a warning on it: “Prolonged exposure may induce insanity and suicidal ideation.” (Where’s that barfing smilie when I need it…)
