D’oh! Maybe my fav latin phrase shoulda been my screen name.
i saw an interview with the pythons actually where they admit they’re all atheist and made the film to mock religious people. yes, you’re right about false religions, but they claim they’re making fun of all religions because they’re all false. terry jones went so far as to call us twisted and depraved for admiring an execution device so much.It doesn’t mock Christianity or Judaism - not a bit. It mocks false ‘faith’ - that being the sort of credulity and ignorance that created the overly legalistic Pharisees, and the sort of WOULD worship a Brian Cohen (a false messiah who TELLS people he isn’t the Messiah) instead of the true Messiah.
And it mocks the stupidity and gullibility of some humans (I mean imagine someone singing ‘always look on the bright side of life’ at the point of death! The purpose wasn’t to mock the Crucifixion, rather the reactions of the people around Brian to it)
I never knew before this one way or the other what the Pythons said about LOB, so I certainly didn’t ‘buy into’ anything, rather I read my own charitable interpretation into it.i saw an interview with the pythons actually where they admit they’re all atheist and made the film to mock religious people. yes, you’re right about false religions, but they claim they’re making fun of all religions because they’re all false. terry jones went so far as to call us twisted and depraved for admiring an execution device so much.
they pretended at the release that it was just for giggles, but that was just to appease people. anyone who bought their argument is none too bright either. it’s obvious satire of religion and believers. although i did like a scene that they took out of the final cut where a jewish nazi talks to brian about creating a racially pure jewish state (israel). like the movie, it’s offensive but is funny and makes a point in a clever way.
i mean … i never liked the film that much. from an objective point of view, it’s very smart and funny. but i can’t enjoy it really as much as i can the meaning of life.

It can easily be guessed that their intent is probably to mock religion, in charity to them I was prepared to wait for evidence before believing so.
Be all that as it may, I don’t care two hoots what they intended, but rather how the film affects me. And certainly no Catholic that I know who’s watched it has had their religious sensibilities suffer for it in the slightest, although they may cringe at some parts as they would in parts of many a movie or tv show without their faith suffering.
And ‘Meaning of Life?’ A film with a scene that mocks Catholic attitudes to contraception with the song ‘every sperm is sacred’? A film that portrays a teacher ACTUALLY having sex with his wife in front of his classroom of students as ‘sex ed’??? And you find Life of Brian more offensive???
From many, one.Did anybody mention the following?
E PLURIBUS UNUM
(I hope those while letters show up! I can’t see them!)
What’s wrong with “new world order” or “new order of the world”? Are you afraid the Illuminati are going to jump out at you? From many, one.
Just don’t tell me
Novus Ordo Seculorum
LilyM and Repo Man I find this advice from Fr. Serpa on discerning what movies to watch to be very helpful. Not afraid, I am called to be “In the world, not of the world.”What’s wrong with “new world order” or “new order of the world”? Are you afraid the Illuminati are going to jump out at you?![]()

every time I see it.
I wish I could figure a way to sneak it onto my Baptist-preacher-who-denies-he’s-anti-Catholic-STBX-father-in-laws computer. Is that rotten or what?![]()
