And ‘Meaning of Life?’ A film with that mocks Catholic attitudes to contraception with the song ‘every sperm is sacred’? A film with a truly repugnant scene that portrays a teacher ACTUALLY having sex with his wife in front of his classroom of students as ‘sex ed’??? And you find Life of Brian more offensive???
yes.

come on. repugnant? it’s not like you see penetration or anything. it’s just john cleese.

and you forgot the part where they’re in mass and sing “oh lord please don’t burn us”. :rotfl:

It’s the whole idea that I find revolting. But you’re right, different tastes for different folks.
and you forgot the part where they’re in mass and sing “oh lord please don’t burn us”. :rotfl:
'O Lord please don’t burn us,
don’t grill or toast your flock.
Don’t put us on the barbecue,
or simmer us in stock.
Don’t braise or bake or boil us
or stir fry us in a wok.
Oh please don’t lightly poach us
or baste us with hot fat.
Don’t fricassee or roast us
or boil us in a vat,
and please don’t stick thy servant Lord
in a Rotissomat.

Amen ’

I’ll be honest and sat that most of my Latin (95%) comes from the boy choir Libera. They’re a treble choir from Norbury, London, and though they’re technically a CoE choir, their music is sometimes energizing, sometimes haunting, always uplifting and enjoyable. That said, here are a few quotes I particularly like (not all are Libera)

caeli enarrant gloriam Dei
“The heavens declare the glory of God”. That one’s actually tattooed on my left shoulder.

ecce homo, qui est faba
“Here is the man who is a bean” (or thereabouts). The Mr. Bean theme tune.

te lucis ante terminum
rerum Creator poscimus
ut solita clementia
sis praesul ad custodium

“Before the ending of the day
Creator of the world, we pray
That with thy wonted favor, thou
Would be our guard and keeper now”

benedictus qui venit in nomine Domine
“Blessed is he who goes in the name of the Lord” - it’s a version of the Sanctus, and it’s beautiful.

I could think of a hundred more, but I urge you to check Libera out, if you’re not familiar with them already!

introibo ad altarem dei
qui laetificat juventutam meam

I shall go to the altar of God
to God who gives joy to my youth
P: Introibo ad altare Dei

S: Ad Deum qui laetificat juventutem meam

P: I will go unto the altar of God.

S: To God, Who gives joy to my youth.
This is more of the Older English Translation. But you had it wrong though in the Latin.

I agree with repo man…

Going with mottos I also like “Ecce Mater Tua” which translated means: Behold Thy Mother. This is the emblazonment of the sign of the Community of St. John. I believe that Mary is our dear Mother, and we need to respect and love her as such, because she helps to draw us nearer to Jesus.

Thanks to everyone who replied because I justed a little more latin…hehe!!! Hi,
Here’s my favorite: VIVA CRISTO REYView attachment 1573

Tempus Fugit

Time flies. When I was young, my Aunt Lauretta would frequently say, “Tempus sure does fugit”. When I would ask her what it means, she would say, “Time flies. You’ll understand it when you get older.”

I am now older and I sure do understand this phrase!!

Here is another of mine:

** O quam gloriosum est regnum, in quo, cum Christo, gaudent omnes Sancti**

~O how glorious the kingdom wherein all the Saints rejoice with Christ.

This is the motet from Victoria’s Mass of the same name.

(you can listen to a sample here - I suggest the windows media player)

De profúndis clamávi ad te, Dómine: Dómine, exáudi vocem meam.
*
(Out of the depths have I cried unto Thee, O Lord: Lord hear my voice. )*

Excellent phrases, Viktor. How about “Christus vincit, Christus regnat, Christus imperat”?

👍
I understand that it is your favorite but he mispelled it look at my previous post, it is spelled correctly there! 😉
No need to rub it in to the original poster. 😉
I knew it as the way you have written it, but didn’t see that he’d made a typo. 🤷
