What is your favorite M*A*S*H* episode?

Oh I like just about every MAS*H episode! But I guess some of my favorites would be;

• Letters-When the characters recieve letters from the school children of Hawkeye’s home town and write back. Charle’s one that made me laugh was:
  And in conclusion Peter, I think it’s perfectly normal for you to want to dress like a grown-up. In fact, I suggest you take your father’s best suit down to the talor shop and have it altered to fit your little body to a T!!
  But I thought it was really touching when he actually wrote out the little girls letter who sent him the leaf.
• **The Yalu Brick Road **where everyone get’s sick after eating Klinger’s turkey for Thanksgiving and Margaret, Father Mulcahy,and Charles have to help out. BJ and Hawkeye end up getting stranded walking back to the 4077 where they come in contact with a little Korean soldier they named Ralph.
• Kim- The one where Hawkeye operated on a Korean boy and they cant find his family so Trapper ends up trying to adopt him and get’s stuck in a mine field with Henry giving him directions which now puts Trapper “in the heart of downtown Berlin!”

*Captains Outrageous- Father Mulcahy keeps getting passed up for promotion and is getting fed up with it and threatens to “punch peoples lights out” and Rosie ends up at the 4077 after getting involved with a fight in her bar, causing the 4077 people to help her out.

*Rally Round the Flagg Boys- Where Captain Flagg shows up and blames Hawkeye of being a communist sympathizer. It’s really funny.

The General Flipped at Dawn- Proably my all time favorite MASH episode. Where Kernal Flagg (later Kernal Potter in the series) comes to the 4077 and wants to relocate it and is a bit loopy to say the least!

Harry Morgan did play the crazy colonel in that episode, but his character’s name wasn’t Flagg I don’t think.

I like that episode too!

*Rally Round the Flagg Boys- Where Captain Flagg shows up and blames Hawkeye of being a communist sympathizer. It’s really funny.

There was another episode, when the an investigator from the McCarthy Commission checks up on Margaret as a suspected Communist sympathizer and tries to get her to “name names”.

Two lines stand out in my mind:

Charles claiming his own family as being “so conservative as to make your Senator McCarthy look like a New Dealer”

…and Margaret, when accused of spending the night at a hotel with a particular person, she denied it: “We never went to any motel! (to the others: ) His father had a Nash…”

Another favorite ep: Colonel Flagg (that man was extremely paranoid but was so funny) was hiding in the garbage can outside the mess hall. Winchester talks to him while Flagg is in the can. Winchester leaves, Flagg is still in the trashcan. (Now pretty much when they show them eating in the mess, Hawkeye is always complaining about the food.) A guy walks out of the mess and dumps his tray into the can that Flagg is in. Winchester pulled the wool over Flagg’s eyes the entire ep. I can’t remember why Flagg was there except that the Mayor (of the town near the camp), his brother, Col. Potter, and Hawkeye were playing poker at the end. Winchester spends the whole ep giving Flagg false information and leading him on wild goose chases.

Anyone remember the episode where Hawkeye desperately needed new boots and promised Margaret to throw a birthday bash for Frank and itt became a house of cards where everyone wanted favors from everyone and in the end everything falls apart?
Hysterically funny!
i love the character of Father Mullcahy as well.

Don’t you think the show “jumped the shark” when Hawkeye and Hot Lips started getting along. And this may be a pet peeve, but thought it was pretty unrealistic that Alan Ada started out in the series with long hair (in style when the show was shot, but not for characters set in the early 50’s).

4077 lives…

yes, absolutely. It was much funnier when they hated each other and certainly much funnier when Margaret was a crazy, not so smart tyrant. She became too nice at the end…and they made her smart. Yes, it was PC and all, but it was funnier.

On a side note: That is the weirdest thing I saw in the US Army: their latrine facilities. When I was in Hohenfels, the toilets were all along the walls, with no stalls or dividers. I mean, I’m all for teamwork and esprit de corps, but…gevalt!

My dh told me that many army bases, especially the old ones, had bathrooms like this even up until the early 90’s. He said you really got to know your friends LOL.

I loved any episode with Col. Flagg in it. Sad to say, the actor who played him, Edward Winter, died of Parkinson’s in 2001.

Has anyone mentioned the episode with the bomber pilot who thought that he was Jesus Christ? They had to bring Sydney in to diagnose him. I liked when Radar asked him to bless his teddy bear.

I’d have to say my favorite episode is the one where Gen. MacArthur is supposed to visit, when they do a run through w/ Radar as MacArthur. The final scene where Klinger is dressed as the Statue of Liberty with sparks shooting out of his torch is absolutely gut-splitting.

Sydney is one of my favorite characters! I like any episode he is in.
