I was wondering what movies people like the best. I go through phases, such as westerns or Hollywood classics from the 30’s and 40’s.

My favorites (in no particular order)

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
Dirty Harry
Magnum Force
Clue
The Burbs
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
UHF
Hammer Horror - Christopher Lee Dracula movies.
Most James Bond, except for Pierce Brosnan
Conan The Barbarian
Pee - Wee’s Big Adventure
Big Top Pee -Wee - okay, not as good as the other.
Austin Powers - 1 & 2
Dirty Dozen
Christmas Vacation
Night At The Opera - Love the Marx Bros.
Cabin Boy
Phantasm
Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
Murder By Death
Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil

As you can see, mostly guy movies. 👍

I’ve merged the post before this into this older thread since this topic has been raised before. However, I notice the revived thread hasn’t had an entry since October of 2006. Might as well use this opportunity to bring the thread up-to-date. Were there any movies released after October 2006 worth the title of “favorite movie of all time” to add to this thread?

My absolute favorite is Jaws. The opening theme still gives me chills.

I forgot about JAWS, that is a great movie. I liked the 2nd one also. Have you seen Open Water, that is also pretty good. (no where near as good as JAWS) It is about a man and a woman who are on a scuba diving tour group and they get left behind in the ocean. Not much blood, but a lot of suspense. 🙂

Edward Scissorhand!

I don’t know why, but since I saw this movie in early 90s, it’s so memorable…

Toni is also in another good recent one, “Little Miss Sunshine.” It’s rated R (raw language and Grandpa is a drug addict), but there is a message of redemption in it.
LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE is pretty good. But you gotta rate movies like :

All Quiet on the Western Front

Citizen Kane

Patton-- Bridge on the River Kwai – the Searchers – Vertigo

THE GODFATHER-- High Noon – The Bicycle Thief

as some of the Greatest ever made.

It’s hard for me to pick just one . . . and my tastes can be eclectic!

But here goes . . .

The Godfather (the original)

Chariots of Fire

South Pacific

Fiddler on the Roof

AND . . .

The Lord of the Rings (all three!)

Spiderman (1st one only) impressed me the most and, it is one that I’ve watched over & over. Not sure why it struck a chord with me, but it did. Two closest runner-ups would be “Wizard of Oz” and “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” in terms of 1st impression and staying power. If you want to talk about a series of sequels, the #1 spot would be the Bourne Identity, Supremacy, & Ultimatum for sheer adrenalin rush.

Probably Sweeney Todd. It’s not that I like the gore, I just love the songs and the general atmosphere. xD and johnny depp is so CUTE!

I also love Cloverfield, Wall-E, Coraline, Pan’s Labyrinth, and a whole bunch of other ones. 🙂

A movie probably no one has ever heard of, part of a trilogy that first came out in the mid-80’s, called Koyaanisquatsi. The title is the Hopi Indian word for “life out of balance” and it’s bird’s-eye-view (or God’s-eye-view) of frenetic modern life. No dialogue, but very effective music by Philip Glass.
My husband and I took everyone we knew to see it on numerous occasions. Lots of people walked out of the theatre because they didn’t get it, but it was amazing.

Tough to pick just one but I would pick Casablanca.

Close second: The African Queen

Honorable mention:
The Godfather Trilogy
Goodfellas
Mutiny on the Bounty (with Brando)
Patton
The Sands of Iwo Jima
They Were Expendable
Hombre
Cool Hand Luke
Stagecoach
Bonnie and Clyde
The Longest Day
Schindler’s List
The Maltese Falcon
Ronin
The Hustler
Dr. Strangelove
Raising Arizona

Casablanca is probably my favorite of all time.

But my favorite movie to watch over and over again (its cheesy…) but its MST3k: The Movie. I can’t help it, I’ve seen it probably 30 or 40 times since back when it first came out on VHS but it still makes me laugh.

My favorite flick to come out since 2006…I really liked Defiance and I suppose The Dark Knight was pretty good.😛

Other favorites:
The Godfather I & II
Any Marx Bros. Film
Arsenic and Old Lace
The Maltese Falcon
Dr. Strangelove
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Meet John Doe
Sons of the Desert
The Great Dictator
Steamboat Bill, Jr.
The Thin Man series (all six films)

Lots of others that I can’t think of right now…

Star Wars (as it was originally titled), or Star Wars, Episode IV: A New Hope (as it is known now).
