What is your favorite musical

JIC anyone is interested–I know from an extremely reliable source (someone who works on Broadway musicals and shows) that Broadway is seeking new musicals. In recent years, they’ve kind of run dry of new shows, especially musicals. Other than Hamilton, it seems that nothing really works, and so they do the Disney adaptations or other cartoon adaptations (e.g., SpongeBob Squarepants) which sell a ton of tickets, but aren’t original to Broadway.

So if you have a secret musical hidden away in your file cabinet, perhaps something that you wrote and was produced in your town ages ago and was well-received by the audience, now’s the time to dig it out and get it in shape, and then find an agent and see if you can get a hearing by a B’way producer for that script!

Break a leg! Hopefully we’ll see your show soon on Broadway!

I’m not sure if American Graffiti qualifies as a musical really, in that instead of singing the music , the characters LISTEN to great music the whole time … But it was a nice period piece about life in California’s Central Valley for teenagers in 1962.

Possibly the musical angle is closer to the successful box office formula employed by Easy Rider – use already established hits by their original artists as background to your story … and cash in on the newly released collection when the music album is released under the movie’s title (for cross-pollination)! 🚲🚓🚦📻💰

We just saw Singing in the Rain last night at the Muny. Oh my! It was everything a musical on that huge stage is supposed to be! Loved it. There was real rain. So many great songs and dancing.

We liked Singing in the Rain too. (It was raining pretty hard the night we saw the show but once the clouds cleared it was a beautiful sunset!) Won’t be in town for Jersey Boys.

Paradoxically, I like opera, but I can’t abide musicals. The only musical I ever liked was Monty Python’s “Spamalot.”

I’m not a huge fan of musicals. I do love Corpse Bride, though.

On the flip side, I do love concept albums and rock/metal opera. Avantasia’s The Wicked Trilogy is wonderful, and Dream Theater’s Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory is one of the best albums ever.

I was talking about the movie. I don’t know if they made it into a stage play.

And actually, I highly recommend listening to the soundtrack 100,000 times. I think I had it memorized by the time I saw the stage production. It was all I could do not to sing along – which was my little gift to those around me, who would **not ** have been appreciative.
