What Is Your Favorite Mystery and Why

While praying the rosary lately it has come to my mind: “What are other peoples favorite mysteries and why?” I for one like the sorrowful mysteries. I think I find comfort in them the most because I feel the most united with Him in suffering. They cause in me the most contemplation. Just curious. I hope to gain new insights and appreciations from your replies.
 
The Presentation in the Temple - it tells of the fullfillment of Simeon’s life of patient hope, and is a precursor to and foreshadowing of Calvary.

The temple is where the Sacrifice God had prescribed in the Old Covenant took place. And here with perfect joy Our Lady and St. Joseph bring the Perfect Lamb to the Temple. Here His blood is shed first in circumcision (a feast sadly that is not as emphasized in the Roman Church) in conformity with the covenant of a Faithful God and His people, as the nations are prepared to join into the New Covenant with a new sacrifice that has perfect continuity with the old.

There are so many levels of fulfillment and promise and types involved, I could meditate on it a lifetime and always discover something new.

Never let anyone tell you that the rosary is anything but a total Christological treasure trove of meditation and prayer.

I just got the book today “the New Rosary in Scripture” by Edward Sri. I hope it will help me.
 
That is a tough question.

If I had to order them, I guess I would say:
  1. Sorrowful - helps me realize the price that was paid and that any suffering I have in life is small in comparrison and that I need to offer it up to God.
  2. Glorious - these give me hope
  3. Luminous - the Eucharist, Jesus’s first miracle and Mary’s part in it, the transifguration.
  4. Joyful - the wonderful gift of Jesus being incarnated, Mary’s fiat, the visitation (and the similarity between that and David bringing the tabernacle to Jerusalem).
But I really like them all and each one holds a special meaning to me - (all 20 of them).

This one glimpse into the hidden years of Christ as He grew up.

Thanks kage_ar that one truely is a mystery. Even in the silent years of Christ we know that He was obedient.
 
I love all of the Glorious Mysteries… but #3, the Descent of the Holy Spirit is especially meaningful to all of us… because it is the birthday of the Church. The first Pentecost. 🙂
 
The first one to come to mind is the Nativity of Our Lord. The fruit of this mystery is poverty. It took me a long time to understand exactly what that meant, probably because I’m an American! 😃
 
I’m a fan of the Luminous mysteries. If I had to pick a favorite one of the five, I’d choose the changing of the water into wine at Cana.
 
Mine are always changing depending upon what I’m go through personally. What I love about the mysteries is that we can always find new insights.

I love The second Joyful Mystery of the Rosary – The Visitation; when Mary, who is pregnant with the baby Jesus, goes to visit her cousin Elizabeth who is pregnant with John the Baptist.

When Elizabeth sees Mary, she is filled with the Holy Spirit and recognizes that Mary is carrying the Messiah. The baby in Elizabeth’s womb leaps for joy, as John the Baptist already begins proclaiming the coming of the Messiah from her womb!

Elizabeth recognizes the presence of Jesus in Mary, and Mary brings the presence of Jesus to all she encounters. Aren’t we called to do the same?

I also love the Third Joyful Mystery – the Birth of Jesus. We can think of the complete trust in God that Mary and Joseph had in their journey to Bethlehem and ask for greater trust in God for ourselves. We can consider the humble surroundings of the stable where Jesus was born and evaluate whether or not we are living in humility. We can marvel that the first to worship this newborn king were simple shepherds, and promise to praise and worship God more often ourselves. We can wonder that the Great God of the Universe chose to become one of us in order that we might be saved, and ask for the grace to share this Good News to all we meet.

We can consider the baby lying in the manger of stiff straw, like an animal, and that Jesus would one day replace all animal sacrifices by His One Perfect Sacrifice on the Cross. Maybe the pokes of the straw on the tender newborn skin prefigured the piercing of His skin from the whip, the crown of thorns and the sword in His side.

As with all the mysteries of the Rosary, their depths can never be fully revealed or understood until we are with God in heaven! The Rosary is such an awesome prayer!!

Listened to someone give a talk on this, speaking about those servants. Those people had the kind of Faith I pray for, can you imagine - you know that those jars contained water, and you are told by this Jesus to take it to your boss - and they person DID it. Amazing faith.

You know, I never thought about it from the perspective of the servants. That’s a really great way of thinking about it! Thanks for sharing, because I’ll def think about it from their perspective the next time I pray the Luminous Mysteries.

In fact, this one had been one of my least favorite, but your explanation is fascinating. Where can one find our more about this and the other mysteries?

For me, the Wedding at Cana, because I love weddings, and the whole water into wine thing…
 
The Assumption of Our Lady into Heaven for 2 reasons:
  1. It’s the decade assigned to me through the Universal Living Rosary Association.
  2. That’s when Our Lady was able to fullfill her role as OUR Mother and take care of us in this life and intercede for us for the next life.

Right now, my favorite mystery is The Transfiguration.It’s always been one of my favorite gospel readings too.I’m not sure there is just one reason why it’s my favorite,but the idea of Jesus showing a bit of his heavenly Glory,the Shekina, to his freinds specialy to bolster them up before His upcoming trial,makes this mystery a really good one for me.I also agree with some of the others that favorite mysteries change with the times for me as well.
