Interesting thing for an atheist to say. Why do you care if I believe in God? (It’s a very comforting “sleep”, by the way). And one day you may wake up from your sleep. I hope it will be some day soon.

I honestly don’t care. Its just you said something religious to me and I said the Atheist version of the same thing to you.Interesting thing for an atheist to say. Why do you care if I believe in God? (It’s a very comforting “sleep”, by the way).
Well, I guess that makes sense.I honestly don’t care. Its just you said something religious to me and I said the Atheist version of the same thing to you.
I think humor is very enlightening. Please, does no one here remember we are supposed to be the Lights of the world? Let’s act like it.
I also have a really good friend who is Methodist. He and I both used to belong to a service group that was Catholic (but they let people from other churches help out). The group disbanded about 10 years ago, but my friendship with this guy has continued. He is the only person from the group that I am still close with. He is one of my best friends.Yes, Methodists are the foshizzle … My lit teacher was a very devout Methodist, who formerly dated a Catholic, I believe. My science teacher in sixth grade was also one, though he attends Mass with his wife and kids (who are, obviously, Catholic).
I have a good friend who is Jewish. His parents are Orthodox, but he is Reform. He has taken me to some excellent Jewish restaurants. I have also learned a lot about the Jewish faith from him. He explained Passover, Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur and other Holy Days. He also explained the Kosher for Passover rules.Judaism is my favorite non-Christian religion.
I’ve always seen Orthodox Judaism as preferable to Reformed Judaism, all things considered. Much of the latter’s doctrine is aimed against Christian beliefs in hopes of differentiating their faith from that of the Christian Faith. His parents are Orthodox, but he is Reform.
Examples?Much of the latter’s doctrine is aimed against Christian beliefs in hopes of differentiating their faith from that of the Christian Faith.
If by “personal Messiah” you mean Jesus as taught by Christians, none of Judaism accepts that, as far as I know. The Jewish Messiah is a corporate one, not an individual one. The Jewish Messiah (Moshiach) is taught as a human political leader, not a supernatural one and the aim is redemption of the entire world not of individuals. There is no Jewish doctrine of original sin from which individuals need to be “saved.”Well, for one, their view of the Messiah is, to my knowledge, strictly symbolic: “There is a messiah in all of us,” or “He represents humanity’s goodness and potential.” They reject the notion of a personal Messiah, in other words.
Ah ok. I thought you meant that. I have only read a small piece about it on wikipedia. It seemed interesting. IIRC he’s not into sacraficing dogs and such nonsense but looks at the inner evil of man. It seemed more like a philosophy.Let me try to find you a wikipedia article on it. Its the LaVey branch if memory serves.
Ok here we go
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LaVeyan_Satanism
So its called LaVeyan Satanism.
That’s a shame! (imo)I was raised believing in Catholicism, but now I’m atheist![]()
HiOf all the non-Catholic religions, I find Sikhism to be the most interesting. I like Guru Nanak. If I didn’t already have Jesus in the Eucharist, I’d go with Guru Nanak.![]()
Yes…and as someone on TV once said “Satanism??? Ooooo that is sooo 1980’s”I smell a troll. :tsktsk:
