The content of this thread reminds me of what John Stuart Mill once wrote:

"And the world to each individual, means the part of it with which he comes in contact-his party, his sect, his church

“The same causes that make him a Churchman in London, Would make him a Buddhist or a Confucian in Pekin”
I’ve never bought that our faith is the product of our enviroment. If this was so few people would ever convert.

Mill isn’t talking about converts so much as he is about being born into a religion, and I think he’s right on the money with that.

I learned about the Menonites on my journey home.

They keep such a plain simple life less stressed

Or maybe I would have like to just be a hillbilly!😛

The koans of Ch’an and Zen Buddhism and the symbolism of Taoism.

Wind, flag, mind moves.
The same understanding.
When the mouth opens
All are wrong. - The Gateless Gate (Chinese Koan)

The best of man is like water,
Which benefits all things, and does not contend with them,
Which flows in places that others disdain,
Where it is in harmony with the Way. - Lao Tzu

I wonder if there are statistics on how many people convert to a different religion vs. stay with their birth religion and how that may vary by country/culture/religion, as well as how many eventually return to the religion of their birth? May not be, as conversion is such an incredibly complex question. It affects (or can) family relationships, social standing and opportunities, even physical safety depending on the specific circumstances.

I think this is a poorly worded question.

What would I ascribe to if I were not Catholic? As a runner up?

Or what tenant of a non-Catholic faith do I find most fascinating?

Or are you asking which non-Catholic body I find most attractive for various reasons?

Before starting a thread, it is useful to really consider the wording.

I am myself Muslim and my favourite non-catholic and non-islamic since i am a Muslim is Budhism and Mormons are quite nice but not sure about their religion beacuse Blacks were only allowed to become priest in 1978 and i am Black and i heard there’s something in their holy book against black something like black skin is disease, i am not sure, i look for more information on the internet and btw i am a new member great to be here.

I study Theology in school and although I definitely believe and love Catholichism only, I am certainly interested in the others.I think my favourite non Catholic religion is Buddhism, because they live by wisdom and justice and treat animals with respect.Karma is also very interesting.I certainly do not believe it, but its very interesting.

Trolls and Luciferians aside, my favorite non-Catholic belief is “sola scriptura”. I tell my Catholic friends I’m an Augustinian because I’m Lutheran. Though I am fascinated with my RC friends, and their theology, I do find it difficult to get around what I’ve been raised believing. Who knows, maybe if I hang around enough I’ll understand?

Blessings
David
I thought this was a troll thread as well at first. But I would like to point out. There is a HUGE difference between a Satanist and a Luciferian. Luciferians do believe in good and evil, a literal Lucifer as the good one, the “Morning star”, they view God as evil who tried to keep mankind in the dark. They view Lucifer as the Light bearer and the giver of knowledge. In fact some even quote the bible, where God refers to Lucifer as the Morning star.

And just for the record, I am not a Luciferian or a Satanist, I am just related to a few. I would have to say that my favorite non-catholic religion would be Hinduism. There are some beautiful teachings in the Bhagavad Gita. Also known as “the song of God”

One of my favorite non-Catholic belief is the Book of Mormon. It gives me an imagination of what could have been my ancestors. I love the book (after I edit it to make it at least more Christian). I don’t agree with the LDS church but I like their book alot.

Another favorite non-Catholic belief is the Urantia Book. Its imaginative stories and theories have left my mind to wonder, ‘what if…’ and I love it. What if there is life on another planet? Can we contact them? Do they need to hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ from the mouths of our holy priests? What if…

I heard one time that Gene Roddenberry used the Urantia Book as source material for the Star Trek series - makes sense, to me. 🙂

Hello Shadow Fire:

I won’t say it’s my “favorite” but it is the one I find most intriguing. That is Seventh Day Aventism. I am completely at a loss as to how they arrive at some of their beliefs. In particular, the theory of investigative judgement. :o

Providing that Catholicism didn’t exist I think I’d have to say Judaism in general would be my choice (having the Tanakh is enough on it’s own since the OT is familiar), but Zoroastrianism is definitely intriguing (although it wouldn’t really matter as they don’t generally accept converts 🤷 ).

If the Holy Spirit didn’t intervene, i’d go back to being a Brahmin.

What is your favorite non-Catholic belief?
Hi

I don’t need to select from the Revealed Religions;when my belief is that all Revealed Religions were truthful in origin;when their followers corrupted the Word, each creed would be judged on merit without bias.

My favorite belief is “Jesus did not die a cursed death on Cross; he died a natural and peaceful death in India; his Seond Coming (1835-1908) has already taken place”

I love Jesus and Mary as I do love Buddha and Krishna.

Thanks

Let me try to find you a wikipedia article on it. Its the LaVey branch if memory serves.

Ok here we go

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LaVeyan_Satanism

So its called LaVeyan Satanism.
Yes, LaVeyan Satanism is my favorite, as well. The philosophies are very impressive. :yup:

I also like my own Catholic faith. I have ways in bending it to where it fits my… uh… “Gothic” style, seeing as it influenced the Gothic subculture. 😉

Ironically Yours, Blade and Blood

I thought I was the only one who blends my faith with others to aid me to be faithful to our Lord!!! I tend to mix (Vajrayana and Mahayana) Buddhism, Sikhism, Judaism, LDS, and SOME New Age practices.🙂
