"Our Lady of Good Counsel"

I love this painting! Does anybody else here who “loves Mary” the Mother of God, have a favorite painting of Mary? If so, post it here and post - “Why you love Mary”.

My absolute favorite is the Madonna of the Streets or the Madonnina. The model for Our Blessed Mother was an 11 year old girl. She looks so young and innocent just like Our Blessed Mother must have been, and she’s looking up to heaven for guidance and strength while her Child lays peacefully in her arms.

I agree with a poster on another thread who prefers classic (not modern) Eastern icons to most western art. My favorite western pictures of Mary are those produced by great artists of the middle ages and Renaissance, like Raphael. Most of what has been produced from the 19th c. onward seems insipid and uninspiring to me. Since any other depiction must be compared to the image she gave us on the tilma, they must suffer in comparison.

This is inappropriate for this forum it should not be in the NonCatholic forum.

I do find some of the icons especially powerful, like the original ‘Our Lady of Perpetual Help’. A lot of modern icon-style depictions don’t do a lot for me, though.

Hello puzzleannie,
Me too! 👍

BTW please forgive me for being stupid elsewhere and earlier… For me it’s like water off a duck’s back…🙂 . I’ve been to Confession since then…I’m going to wear-out that confessional

God Bless You.

what the hell has this got to do with non-catholic religions?

you wouldnt like our answers. because for us most of the time, the only pictures of your icons that we would like are those that make us laugh.

Why is that? Our blessed mother is the mother of Christ who died for the redemption of ALL, Catholic and Non-Catholic alike.

And here’s something from my Christmas lights; It’s no painting, but does it count? (OK, I’m just showing off my lights…)

Again, not a painting, but here is one of my favourite statues which is by Lladro. (I have one of these in my home too… it’s a bit small but a real treasure.)

Charlie - this is beautiful! I’m not a huge Lladro fan, but this one is really lovely.

The Annunciation by Carl Bloch 1875. His depiction of Mary looks just like my mom (in her younger days). 🙂

God bless,
Paul
