What is your favorite saying from Jesus and why?

I wanted to create a light-hearted thread so that Christians can unite around the one thing we can all agree on, the love we have for Jesus. I would like to know what your favorite saying (or parable) is from Jesus, and why?

note: All are welcome to respond, (i.e., you don’t have to be Christian to appreciate Jesus’s wisdom).
 
By the way I’m still reflecting on which saying from Jesus is my favorite? Although I really love John 8:7 because it demonstrates Jesus’s mercy, wisdom, and strenght.

“If anyone of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.”
 
Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

I have labored and been heavy laden (in all senses of these words) and He has given me rest. It resonates with me, because it has been actualized in my own life time and again.

Yes it is difficult to choose just one, but I love your choice.

Oh, wrong show.

Seriously, I’m also a fan of the prodigal son story. Any story that tells of God’s love and mercy as compared to man’s tendency to keep a running tally is impressive.
 
“Forgive them Father, for they know not what they do.”

In my discovery of forgiveness , I’ve come to the conclusion that most times
what others do to me lacks any real intent. People are wrapped up in their
own struggles. Resentment at past perceived slights- be they by friends, teachers,
parents, co-workers were in no small measure lifted when I recognized that they
go about life as best they can. They too are broken weak sinners just as I am.
Those that hurt me have been manipulated by Evil and the stresses of living
and they “know not what they do.”

This by the way has helped in areas of shyness. Self conciousness.
I recognized that shyness ends up being in some ways obsession with self…
self-centeredness. Most people are wrapped up with themselves so much
that they aren’t paying that close of attention to me. I’m just not** that**
important. People are thinking more about their cars needing tune-ups,
the sale on brocolli and tuna, their kids grades than they are on what I look like
or sound like.
 
“and behold, I am with you always, even unto the end of the age.” Matthew 28:20

I find comfort in knowing that Jesus is always with us - that He will never abandon us.

I know I’ll probably think of others, but this was the first one that came to mind that I often reflect on when I am in need.
 
Actually I have many favorites, but I picked a few that kind of show who Jesus is.

Jn. 1:14And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
I guess this is by John but it serves as a good intro to Jesus. And then John 17:17Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. And then John 14:6Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

I guess these show us that the way to get to know Jesus is through His word and that leads us to eternal life. You can probably throw in John 5: 39Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
 
“Love your enemies.”

Knowing this gave me the power to perform a miracle or two.
 
I really love the sermon on the mount, but especially the The Narrow and Wide Gates (Matthew 7:13-14) and A Tree and Its Fruit (Matthew 7:15-23)…

Those things really kept me on the straight and narrow… In many cases the choice that is easy on the flesh is not the right one.

I read your conversion story in another thread and it was awe inspiring (God is great). Although I a cradle Catholic never had serious doubts about my faith, I have gone through many trials and tribulations the sort that led me to despair (and thoughts of . . . .), what got me out each and everytime was my faith in God; He truly does restore and renew our spirit.
 
My absolute favorite(s) are in John 6.

Take this all of you and eat it. This is my body which will be given up for you.

Take this all of you and drink from it. This is the cup of my blood, the blood of the new and everlasting covenant.

Without Jesus saying this, we wouldn’t have him in the Eucharist.
 
One of the first things that came up in my mind is Jesus’s talking about the salt of the earth (my signature), but soon afterward I smile at the scene where Jesus calm of the sea. This story speaks to me well because so often we are in a storm and forget that Christ is right there next to us and we need not worry.

“Why are you terrified, O you of little faith” (cf. Matthew 8: 26)
 
All of his words in the gospel of john chapter six-because it proves the eucharist is really jesus and not a symbol.
 
My favorite John 6:54-56: He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him, and I will raise him up at the last day
 
My favorite actually has to do with one of my favorite parts of our Lord’s life: the Wise Thief. When the Wise Thief repents and simply asks Jesus, “Lord, remember me when you come into your kingdom,” Christ responds, “Truly I say to you - today you will be with me in Paradise.” The Thief did what we should all do, and Christ responded with what every true Christian hopes to hear.
 
John 1:1 In the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God.

This is my favorite verse. This verse was the first verse I actually memorized not just generally, but knew where it was and what it was. Right before I moved, right across the street from some very nice, very persuasive Jehovah Witness’. It all came back to rest on that verse. No way to get around it unless you add to the word of God.

If I could put my top 2, it would then be John 20:19-22.

Next in line has to be chapter 6 of John, the whole thing!

Reverse the order depending on what is going on in my life:p
