What is your interpretation of Jesus being 'the only begotten Son of God'?

If you read all of my previous postings, you would not have to ask this question. I referred to Isaiah 44:6, and agree with it. This 'defines ‘God’. 🙂
Isaiah 44:6 has a context, like every other book. It’s sad when Christians take out a word or a sentence and give it a meaning, without considering what the writers meant. If you go to verse 8 of Isaiah, God speaks about those who trusts in idols, but proclaims Himself as the only True God. By stating that He is God, He is not implying that He is only one person. If you go further down, in verse 22-24 it says:

I have swept away your offenses like a cloud,
your sins like the morning mist.
Return to me,
for I have redeemed you.

Sing for joy, O heavens, for the LORD has done this;
shout aloud, O earth beneath.
Burst into song, you mountains,
you forests and all your trees,
for the LORD has redeemed Jacob,
he displays his glory in Israel.

God says, I have redeemed you. Jesus’ death on the cross is his act of redeeming mankind. verse 23 says, the LORD has done this, and how has he done this we might ask, but through his Son, Jesus the eternal Word. He has displayed His glory to Israel.

I have no idea what you are trying to tell me. You are off and running somewhere, that is not part of the thread, that I am questioning. This is going nowhere. It is now after 2:00 a.m. here, so I am going to bed. Take care & God Bless You. 🙂

Typical behaviour. Which part did you not understand, that scripture has a context or that Isaiah was not talking defining the singularity of the Triune God?

Isaiah chpt 43 is referring to the first figure of Isaiah 44:6 (The Lord God Almighty…the father of Jesus…our father in heaven). If you notice, The Lord God Almighty is not only the creator, but is also the redeemer. He, Himself, is responsible for redeeming His creation, before He submits His creation and Himself unto The Father. Jesus Christ, is the actual ‘redemption’ (The Lamb of sacrifice). It is Our Father in Heaven’s Kingdom that is coming (The Lord’s Prayer). Jesus Christ has his own kingdom (that we can partake of if we are found worthy), but Jesus Christ also partakes of His Father’s Kingdom (sitting on the throne with His Father). Both figures are ‘The Word’, and King of Kings and Lord of Lords. The (ultimate) Father and The Holy Ghost, are two other figures, not allowed to be seen by man (per the scriptures).

Let us look at one other ‘thing’. The angels were created by The Lord God Almighty. Adam was created by The Lord God Almighty. Eve was created by The Lord God Almighty, but was also ‘begotten’ of Adam (Adam’s rib). Now, if we look at Jesus, it is possible, that the following occurred;

Since angels and man (and Jesus) are created in the image of God, then let’s assume, that all males have sperm (assuming also that Genesis 6:2 refers to angels). If the Lord God Almighty ‘created/begot’ Jesus before all other creations, could we not assume, that He used His own sperm in order to ‘begit’ Jesus? Then, could He not have changed Jesus back to this same sperm, and have The Holy Ghost impregnate Mary with this sperm? Would this not explain the mystery of The Trinity & The Godhead, and the mystery of Jesus Christ? All scripture would make sense, and the misunderstandings concerning The Trinity & The Godhead, would become self-evident. The big question, is, are there three figures, or four? 🙂

The mystery of the Holy Trinity is a sacred mystery. We are mere creatures, there is no way we can totally understand the sacred mystery of the Holy Trinity or the incarnation.
Can you put the ocean into a jar? No. that is just what you are trying to do, you are attempting to put the the mystery of God into human words and human understanding.

I’m afraid you are bordering on blasphemy now, so I’d just like to remind you that God is the creator of matter, but does not need matter. He is above His creation. There are a whole load of scripture passages that attest to the divinity of Jesus. I am posting a useful link here: scripturecatholic.com/jesus_christ_divinity.html

As for begotten and made, you are trying to understand begotten from a human stand point and your argument is very similar to what muslims use when they criticize the incarnation. I know you are trying to understand this mystery. A better thing to do would be to pray about it and then read scripture and get someone to explain these things to you.

Begotten does not mean made, it means that Jesus always existed with God and is God. Being made is what happened to creatures. When a child is born of his parents he has the same substance of his parents. But the picture of that child although it resembles the child is not the child and has a different substance from the child. This is a weak way of understanding how Christ shares in the divinity of his Father and how we are living images of Christ.

Christ’s Divinity

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government will be upon his shoulder, and his name will be called ‘Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace’” (Is. 9:6).

“Simon Peter replied, ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.’ And Jesus answered him, ‘Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jona! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven’” (Matt. 16:16-17).

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1).

"Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am” (John 8:58).

“‘I and the Father are one’” (John 10:30).

“For in him [Christ] the whole fulness of deity dwells bodily” (Col. 2:9).

“In many and various ways God spoke of old to our fathers by the prophets; but in these last days he has spoken to us by a Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He reflects the glory of God and bears the very stamp of his nature, upholding the universe by his word of power . . .” (Heb. 1:1-3).

"But of the Son he says, "Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever, the righteous scepter is the scepter of thy kingdom. . . . And, “Thou, Lord, didst found the earth in the beginning, and the heavens are the work of thy hands.” (Heb. 1:8, 10)

John 10:30 - Jesus says, “I and the Father are one.” They are equal. The Jews even claimed Jesus made Himself equal to God. Jesus’ statement in John 14:28, “the Father is greater than I,” cannot contradict John 10:30 (the Word of God is never in conflict). Jesus’ statement in John 14:28 simply refers to His human messianic role as servant and slave, which He, and not the Father or the Holy Spirit, undertook in the flesh.

John 10:36 - again, Jesus claims that He is “the Son of God.”

John 10:38; 14:10 - “the Father is in me and I am in the Father” means the Father and Son are equal.

John 12:45 - Jesus says, “He who sees Me sees Him who sent Me.” God the Father is equal to God the Son.

John 13:13 - Jesus says, “You call me Teacher and Lord and you are right for so I AM.”

John 14:6 - Jesus says “I am the way, and the truth and the life.” Only God is the way, the truth and the life.

John 16:15 - Jesus says, “all things that the Father has are Mine.” Jesus has everything God has which makes Him God.

John 16:28 - Jesus says that “He came from the Father and has come into the world.”

John 17:5,24 - Jesus’ desire is for us to behold His glory which He had before the foundation of the world.

John 20:17 - Jesus distinguishes His relationship to the Father from our relationship by saying “My Father and your Father.”

Rev. 1:8 - God says He is the “Alpha and the Omega.” In Rev. 22:13, Jesus also says He is the “Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last, the beginning and the end.” The only possible conclusion one can reach is that Jesus is equal to the Lord God.

Rev. 1:17 - Jesus says again, “I am the First and the Last.” This is in reference to the God prophesied by Isaiah in Isaiah 44:6, 41:4, 48:12.

Rev. 1:18 - Jesus, the First and the Last, also says “I died, and behold, I am alive for evermore.” When did God ever die? He only did in the humanity of Jesus Christ our Lord and God.

Rev. 2:8 - Jesus again says, “The words of the First and the Last, who died and came to life.” When did God die and come to life? In our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Thanks for your kind remarks. I had asked a question, and it wasn’t about theology.

God is in those who love…
Theology? Which part of my answer was theology?

You’re making a sweeping statement about God being in those who love. Love what and whom? Some people love to be a pain to others…surely they are not an expression of God’s love nor a manifestation of God.

I have listed the scriptures throughout my postings on this thread. I have demonstrated, how we all could be wrong in our interpretations (including the authors of the written Word). I have shown how it is in fact possible for Jesus to be both Lord of Hosts and Son of Man, and still remain ‘one figure’. WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM?

Every Christian is aware of the scriptures. We all believe in Jesus Christ as Lord & Saviour. Do not try to teach us things that we already know. I have been delving into the mystery of The Trinity & The Godhead, for over 10 years. I have sought answers from God, daily (more than once per day), asking Him through prayer, for this understanding. He tells us, ask and ye will be given; seek and ye shall find; knock and the door shall be open unto you. It is people like you, that will never receive answers from God, because you do not ask Him. Where is your faith? Do you not believe that He will answer you? He is your Father in heaven. Who will you believe, someone who thinks that they know the answers, or God, that we all know has the answers? I both love God and fear Him. I also, take Him at His Word. I trust Him more than any human being. How can I be on the verge of committing blasphemy? 🙂

We seem to forget the story of Solomon. He was made ‘rich’ as a reward for his seeking wisdom from God, and not relying on his own vanity, or the vanity of others. God was pleased by this. Should we not all seek wisdom from God, directly? Has it now become a ‘sin’ to do so? 🙂

Well there you go again, you assume to know so much about me, then why would you not assume to know about God. How can you know the state of anyone’s soul its laughable.

By saying that Jesus was created like the angels and then made into God, that part is a heresy and a blasphemy.

First you had a problem that you thought I did not know scripture. Now you have a problem if I give you scripture. You’re just here to waste people’s time isn’t it?

Do you admit that scripture is inerrant or do you consider that scripture could be wrong? I need to know where you are coming from.

I did not say that Jesus was created like the angels. I said that He was ‘begotten’. I said that it was possible, that this occurred through the sperm of the Lord God Almighty. I did not say that this in fact happened. You are screwing up what I have posted. Jesus only said, that, “Before the world was, I am.” I did not change this. This statement still holds true. The scripture also states, that He was ‘begotten’. Now, before criticizing me, what answer do you have? What does the scripture mean, by, ‘the only begotten Son of God’? 🙂

I already gave you scripture, but… well. You need to go back to the original language which explains begotten as being of the same essence and not the same as being made.

Many have seen God. The O/T has many writings that support this. Also, if a person (as it is written) sees Christ sitting on the right hand of God, then they must have seen God. 🙂
None of them saw God directly. “Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see” 1 Timothy 6:15-16 When Ezekiel sees the merkabah, the wheels and chariot in the sky, or Moses sees God as a man-figure, he’s seeing a manifestation of God, not actually God as “God actually is”.

“begotten” has a mystical meaning (after all, how else does a father beget?). It doesn’t mean “created” at all. “begotten, not made”- it’s in the Nicene Creed even.

Jesus did have a created nature, and that came from the Blessed Virgin Mary. His uncreated nature came from the Father. God doen’t have “sperm” (ugghh), and the exact biology of the Incarnation is a mystery, a working of the Holy Spirit, so just leave it at that!

Theology? Which part of my answer was theology?

You’re making a sweeping statement about God being in those who love. Love what and whom? Some people love to be a pain to others…surely they are not an expression of God’s love nor a manifestation of God.
You have answered here theologically, as everything else that you have said for my benefit.

I haven’t asked you any theological questions. You have ignored every question that I have asked you.

I am only interested in how you have found God. There is no end to the making of books, and as you have said no end to oppinionated authories.

From your experiences of God, what can you say…

I already gave you scripture, but… well. You need to go back to the original language which explains begotten as being of the same essence and not the same as being made.
All that you have given to me. is a pile of junk, and your interpretation of this pile. Genesis uses the term ‘begotten’ to explain the birth of a child, which involves the impregnation of a female, with male sperm. Why can I not assume, that this is the same meaning, when I think of Jesus as being the only ‘begotten’ Son of God? Why would I now assume, that sperm is not involved? Why would the possibility that I posted, have no merit?

Why could I not assume, that God created Jesus, through the use of His sperm (without a mother), and again, revert back to this sperm, in order to impregnate Mary, and create the Son of Man? Would this not have merit? Would this not tie into the scriptures? Would this not explain how Jesus could have been ‘begotten’, and also be both ‘The Lord of Hosts’ (above the angels) and ‘Son of Man’ (below the angels)? It is very evident, that The Lord God Almighty existed before Jesus, otherwise, how could Jesus have been begotten by Him?

We do not know if this was revealed to anyone before. We do not know the understanding that even the authors of the scripture had. We only make assumptions, and by the scripture that I quoted, these assumptions are in conflict with each other. You have totally ignored this. You just keep rambling, and regurgitating your own beliefs, or the beliefs that others have fed you. Your beliefs are based on conflicting scriptures. How do you explain this?

Are we not created 'in the image of God? Are not the angels, and Christ, also? When John witnessed Revelation, were not the angels in our ‘image’ also? Would God make His Sons & daughters look like ‘something other than Himself’? If you believe that He would, why do you believe so? 🙂
