Michael W. Smith’s new Christmas CD “It’s A Wonderful Christmas” is the most recent one that I bought.

Reba McEntire’s “Duets” is the newest CD that I have received as a gift.

Don Sebastiano by Donizetti. Waiting for it to arrive by post. Fedora Barbieri singing. Can’t wait for it to come. Absolutely love her. One of the greatest mezzos ever!!👍

I love the new MWS Christmas CD. His orchestral arrangements are beautiful.
 
I just picked up the new CD by Ayreon titled 01011001. I think that’s supposed to be binary for “Planet Y”. Epic Space Rock/Metal Opera at it’s finest! 🙂
 
Taking Chances - Celine Dion … awesome… I never saw myself as too much of a Celine fan… but … I am listening and loving!!
 
CHOBITs Character Album. The duet between Shimbo and Sumomo is hilarious; the one between Kokubunji and…the android he modeled on his sister…is beautiful.

I just picked up the new Alter Bridge album Blackbird. If you don’t know the band, its the principal members of Creed with a new lead singer.

I still buy CDs (generally don’t end up spending alll that much for each) – with classical music, you rarely have the problem of only liking one “song” on the whole CD. 😛 Given the status of my computer equipment, I sure don’t want to have to rely on downloads for music. 😃

I don’t know if I’d call it evil. It definitely isn’t Christian, but I don’t believe it to be it to be anti-Christian. Certainly, it’s not overtly so.

Of course, I’m a big metal fan. I definitely don’t like the death stuff or the explicitly anti-Christian stuff, but I do enjoy the melodic power/progressive metal. I’m also firm enough in my faith where I know I won’t be shaken by the lyrics when they’re not completely compatible with the Christian worldview. Much of the metal I listen to will take off from works of literature (Kamelot’s previous album “The Black Halo” is based on Goethe’s Faust, or the band Blind Guardian has an album “Nightfall on Middle Earth” which takes off of Tolkien’s Silmarillion). Or other bands I like compose their own stories (like Rhapsody of Fire and their Tolkienesque rock operas or Ayreon and their sci-fi concept albums).

Of course, don’t take my word for it! Listen to it for yourself and decide if it’s appropriate for your son.

If you want some solid Christian metal bands for your son to listen to, by far the best I’ve come across are Theocracy and Saviour Machine. Theocracy is orchestral power metal in the same vein as Kamelot, and Saviour Machine is a bit Gothic. You get high quality metal music without having to worry about the lyrics!

Glad to help! 👍 Of course, my musical tastes are not very mainstream and not particularly prevalent among Catholics, so I would certainly not claim infallibility in that area. Ask me something about doctrine, though, and I might fair better! :o 😛 But if you’re looking for a Catholic perspective on heavy metal, I’m your man! 😃
 
I mostly listen to classic rock. (Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, The Beatles, etc.) but recently started listening to Blindside.

Blindside is a christian metal band. (I know, it sounds contradictory)

I’ve never really liked the Christian rock music nowadays because its just not my type but Blindside happens to be really really good. I recommend any of their albums but especially Silence, About a Burning Fire, or The Great Depression.
