What is your opinion of those who are anti-NFP

Mainly in traditionalist Catholic circles, Natural Family Planning (NFP) is debated. I believe a great number of trads are mostly anti-NFP, believing that NFP is wrong no matter what the circumstances are. There are some in traditionalist Circles who believe that NFP is ok to use for serious reasons.

What is your opinion of those who are very much anti-NFP?
 
Nobody HAS to use NFP. I don’t have any issue with someone who doesn’t as long as they aren’t contracepting.

I have never met anyone ever who thought NFP was wrong no matter the circumstances are. I have heard people disagree as to how serious a circumstance is. I would think it quite odd to run across someone who would think a couple had to have sex no matter the risk to someone’s life.🤷

My opinion is that they are just like all other cafeteria Catholics who want the Church to teach their own agenda. Pope StJPII had numerous times affirmed the virtues that NFP entail and how they work to strengthen marriage and enrich marital intimacy.

When we don’t like the way the Church teaches something, that presents as an opportunity not to find fault with it, but to conform ourselves to the Church’s viewpoint. Sex is a holy act only when abstinence is also appreciated as holy and good for marital intimacy also.
 
People who believe NFP is always wrong, clearly don’t understand Church teaching or refuse to accept it. It is not an opinion that a faithful and well-informed Catholic can hold.

But as other posters note, I think the issue is more around an understanding of how serious the reasons to use NFP need to be. For some people, there don’t seem to be reasons other than immediate risk of death that count.

Using NFP means that you are having sex when you are least likely to get pregnant. Therefore, you are having sex but not intending or wanting or hoping to get pregnant.
In fact, you are trying not to get pregnant.

That, to me, sounds not-so-open to life.

NFP is natural birth control or family planning; ABC is artificial birth control or family planning.

Both are put into use when a couple is trying not to get pregnant.

The only difference seems to be that one is non-natural method.

I find it odd that anyone would assert that it is never just to avoid pregnancy. That is a valid end, as (to me at least) common sense dictates. The term “open to life” is not intended to run counter to that idea. It is instead a statement about the proper means to avoid.
 
1Cor. 7:5 - Married couples should not refuse each other except by agreement, naturally.

Such people do not have to practise NFP but they MUST accept the Church teaching that it is permitted to be practiced.
