The way I always think of it is, I’m a fairly frugal person but I can still afford to buy regular stuff. But I choose to buy a lot of stuff that’s not. So I ask myself, would I buy this? I do shop at goodwill and I know what I would and wouldn’t buy. Stains are a no-go, as are holes in the fabric itself. I’ll take missing buttons or splitting seams though. Similarly, I’ll buy almost-expired meat, and when I did cleaning jobs we did frequently make off with expired baked goods that were supposed to be thrown away.

If they’re only odd shaped and don’t look like they belong in a Martha Stewart Baking catalogue, so what…someone wouldn’t mind eating them and it would be a case of beauty is in the eye of the beholder…However, if they’re bad to the taste due to an ingredient mishap that is another story and should not be given to those in need.

Depends some on that “scraps” one is talking about. I remember when I was a little kid there were a fair number of hoboes who would come to my grandmother’s house. Her typical routine was to have them do some little job like sweeping her porch. She would then give them an enormous sandwich made of leftovers. But what leftovers they were! She made her own bread and a slice of it was like a plate. She would put in tomato slices, slices of ham or beef or whatever she had, lettuce, even green beans and gravy. She would require that the hobo eat that sandwich on the steps of her porch, so she would know he ate it. She would then give him another sandwich just like it wrapped in newspaper, and a little money.

She knew he would buy cheap wine with the money, and he might throw the sandwich away. But at least she knew he ate one of them.

The homeless are entitled to “their” scraps, they own them

I read an SMS message of a friend of a friend where the first person mentioned they have made some biscuits and they didn’t turn out well and they showed a photo and they looked misshapen and odd texture etc and that it was a waste of cooking supplies etc because they weren’t going to eat it due to their state.
The other person replied back to them “it doesn’t have to work out perfect every time, you could always give them to the homeless hehe”.

What is your opinion of this?
Personally I didn’t like reading this because it seemed to me almost like treating the homeless as some disposable garbage bin or like your pet dog.
Some people might have the mentality of the homeless will be greatful for anything but to me,if the food is so sub par that you wouldn’t eat it,is it treating the homeless with dignity and love to give it to them?

Am I just too sensitive and looking at it the wrong way or what do you think?

Is there a way of serving the poor with love vs without love? ❤️
Not eating a food based on it’s physical appearance is a very bigoted thing to do…I thought we as a society had gotten past this…

Turn a blind eye to thine biscuits misshapen form and partake…enjoy the imperfect pickle, have at the Horned Melon give freely to the homeless your tomatoes that resemble presidents and soap stars…relish the Rambutan! Donate that Tahitian screwpine fruit in the back of the fridge, give away that evil looking avocado on the counter…take your unsightly biscuits and go forth to feed the hungry!
