We sing both modern and traditional hymns all with the use of the organ.
It’s a 50 year old church. Lots of old people at the vigil Mass. Mixture of old and young at the early morning Mass(the one I go to) and basically all young families at the late morning Mass.
What sort of music do you often hear at Mass? Contemporary praise and worship–like Matt Maher and Hillsong? The folksy stuff from the 70’s and 80’s? Latin and chant? Traditional with hymns and organ?
How young or old is your parish? A lot of families? Young adults? Seniors?
Can’t describe the music and I don’t really know what is sung in Western Churches.
But there’s hardly any Latin because no one except the Priest knows it.
Approximately 50 years old. Youngest in the vicinity. Our Parish has a mix of Young and Old. Special children’s mass on Sundays
All in all a VERY happening Youth Group.
Suburban Parish.
One thing we’re proud of here is that each Easter at least 2 people formally enter the faith.

Sorta folksy. It’s the standard OCP hymnal stuff typically sung with an acoustic guitar and/or one of those horrid electronic keyboard things set to “Violin.” Our new assoc. pastor sometimes sings the Agnus Dei in Latin but that’s about it.
Extremely old. When you walk into the parish there’s an ocean of gray hair and walkers. That said it’s a kinda crummy military town so young folk don’t tend to stick around and there’s a noticeable gap of people between the ages of 18 and 50.

Depends on what Mass you attend – will be traditional with pipe organ, contemporary praise-worship, folksy, or chant.
Parish is over 120 years old. Lots of all ages/types of people – single people, families with babies, children of all ages, teens, young adults, seniors – lots of everything from newborn to very elderly. Not uncommon to have a secondary “choir” of babies “singing” during Mass (well, to me, they sound like they’re singing along ).
Urban (in a very Catholic area – three other Catholic churches less than two miles away. Several other Catholic churches in other parts of the city).
Traditional with hymns and organ, Latin and chant, in that order.
Our parish is 140 years old. Our church is 100 years old. 500 families. A mixture,
young, old, and in between. Right now, a lot of young couples with young children are
registering. We have lifelong, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10 year parishioners.
It’s an urban and rural parish. The city limits have grown to include, and beyond our
parish. Our parish is in the middle of farming and ranching acreage.
Cows to the left of us, a vineyard to the right of us, water for the cemetery, grounds from
farming irrigation ditches. Farming across the street, and ranching/farming behind us.
The music is mostly contemporary stuff: 70s thru today. The adult choir often throws in a more traditional choral piece by Mozart, Palestrina, or the like. When the pastor says Mass the Mass parts are usually “chanted” in English.
The parish is 25 years in a very modern but still impressive building. There are number of young families but also lots of seniors. (There is a large retirement community within the parish boundaries.)

Mass at my parish is devoid of music, except during the most solemn time of all, when parishoners receive communion. But instead of chant, the music is a very loud and very bland song about loving people, with no mention of God whatsoever. Very distracting and very inappropriate, imo. I’m not a fan.
Most people that attend are older, like 60+. I’m usually one of about 5 people who attend mass that are around 20 or so.

We have a mix. I am on the liturgy committee, and we try to incorporate a lot of traditional hymns. We use a lot of the newer stuff too, but our hymnody is relatively old. At the 5:30 Vigil and 8:30 Sunday morning we have organ and cantor, and the 11 a.m. Sunday usually has organ, piano, choir, and sometimes guitar.
The parish is very old. The church, however, is newer. What had happened was the town was comprised of five Roman Catholic churches that formed the parish, and then there was not enough funding for all five, so four were closed, and we all merged into one church, so the church was renovated in 2004/2005. Before that it had more artwork and was more articulate. The renovations made it more modern. There’s lots of older people, and there’s not even a youth group anymore.
We use the Vatican ii hymnal. We chant the Mass parts in English from one of the settings in that hymnal. All Masses have the same music with an organ or piano. Always a cantor but the mid-morning Masses also have a choir.
We are one of the largest parishes in the diocese. With all ages and stages. Probably fewer young adults since we are an outer suburb although there is plenty of employment and inexpensive housing. (Just not much nightlife.)
