Friends,
I am a mom and wife and was wondering how to improve my prayer life?
Any ideas? journal? prayer list? time of day?
blessings to all,

In traditional Catholic books you will read that Catholics are bound to pray morning and evening prayers. Catholics should also pray ejaculations/aspirations all throughout their day. The Blessed Virgin Mary told us at Fatima that we should pray at least five decades of the rosary every day. At least twenty minutes of mental prayer should be prayed every day as well. If you do these things faithfully every day, you will be in very good shape! God bless you.

Having the genuine willingness to pray, even if you cannot, has plenty of spiritual benefits. I believe having such a genuine willingness is very much acceptable to God. In fact, it seems to me that the righteous willingness to pray is much more important than the spoken prayer itself! It’s so easy for prayers to become complacent–a mere good habit–which defeats the true purpose of praying.

LOVE! ❤️

I pray the liturgy of the hours daily. My present life circumstances allow me to pray the full LOTH on most days. However it is most certainly laudable to do only a part of it, if that’s all you can manage. As a busy mom, you have to adapt to your circumstances! My recommendation would be to go easy, maybe morning or evening prayer, or maybe even just Compline (night prayer) to start. If you only pray by reading/reciting it, MP and EP shouldn’t take more than 10-15 min.

If you can manage it I do like the Office of Readings. It’s maybe 15-20 min but has the option that you can pray it at any time of the day. The biblical readings and readings from the Church fathers and saints are well worth the detour.

I meant to say that O.L. of Fatima ASKED us to pray at least 5 decades of the rosary every day. Because of her request, we should view praying the holy rosary as an integral part of our prayer life.

I pray the rosary before bed each night, usually in the shower. I also try to pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet daily, preferably at 3 pm. I frequently fail at this one! It might be helpful to have a quiet, private prayer space set aside somewhere in the house if there is room. This is something I’m working on in my own house. If only I had more room! I’d love to have a dark closet where I could light a candle, be surrounded by icons, and just let it rip! :crossrc:

Have you seen this book? amazon.com/Christian-Prayer-Catholic-Book-Publishing/dp/0899424066/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1404080781&sr=8-1&keywords=christian+prayer . If you want to get into a regular prayer habit, I can highly recommend this. Be sure to get the guide that goes with it, or it will be impossible to follow.

I’ve made a commitment to the Confraternity of the Holy Rosary to pray the Rosary everyday. It helps once you make a commitment to another person or group of people to pray everyday. I also pray with the nuns at a local monastery in the evenings a few times a week. I do adoration a few times a week and just sit with the Lord in silence and offer short prayers.

Also finding inspirational catholic books are helpful to motivate you to want to pray. I also say “Jesus I trust in you” several times per day whenever my mind starts drifting to unpleasant thoughts.

For me, a robust prayer life is a must and also a dicipline. So I make routines and try my best stick with them.

God Bless

First thing in the morning, get up and pray! Any prayer will be fine, it will be your morning prayer.

Pray before every meal!

Pray the Chaplet of God the Father every day!

Pray the Rosary every day, pray the Akita prayer everyday, consecrate yourself to the immaculate heart of Mary and re-new that consecration everyday!

Make an act of contrition everyday!

Say your prayers before you go to bed.

Do that and you’ll be rolling in your prayer life. 🙂

God bless. 😃

I would definitely pray in the morning…I start with the Divine Office…just began praying this, as this prayer was recommended by our good pastor. He taught us during Advent, that this prayer is second only to the Holy Mass, and is prayed, by obligation, by all ordained and by all religious…so you are joining in the prayer of the Catholic Church! Once you get the hang of flipping to different parts of the prayer book, it really does not take that much time to pray.
I have to admit that usually I am much better at morning prayer than evening prayer…as a wife and mother, I know that you know what I mean. I am oftentimes exhausted by the early evening and can barely manage an Act of Contrition by bedtime. However, I figure, it is better to get started and take the baby steps and pray for the graces to grow in prayer. We also try to pray the rosary together as a family in the evening. If your children are young, I bet you could start out with just a decade and work up from there as your children grow! How pleasing that would be to Our Lady…and She herself would help you advance in prayer. God Bless you!

ok, my first question is, how old are your children? How many?..Im fully aware that all the suggestions others have given you may not be very practical if you are a busy mother with young children.

So my suggestions are if you are a very busy stay at home mom with young ones are the following…

Praying while cooking, or vacuuming, or over coffee, anytime you have the brief moments to yourself. It doesnt have to be formal. Just talking to God is what St Teresa of Avila said is prayer (“conversation with God”)…

So, if I were you, I would take stock of what your day to day life is like in order to make realistic goals when it comes to prayer.

Some of the suggestions given to you just may not be practical for you as a mother if you have a young family…

I meant to say in my post that traditionally Catholics are bound to pray morning and night prayers, not morning and evening prayers. God bless you.
