I’m about to undergo my first confession and I’m planning on finding a priest who doesnt know me and whom I’m never ever likely to meet ever again :o
Don’t be afraid of having a regular confessor. I agree with others that it helps form and strengthen your faith when you use the same one. Over time, they will be better able to serve and guide you as you progress in your faith. I remember my first confession, which was less than a year ago. You will be so relieved when it is complete! God Bless You!🙂

i have only the one confessor as i think having a regular confessor helps me more as he knows my struggles and can advise me on them better and i go face to face as he’d know it was me anyway

Wherever you go to Confession, there should be an option to confess behind a screen so that the priest won’t know who you are (they may recognize your voice if they know you).

Unless that happens to be an Eastern Catholic Parish, where no such expectation occurs. The CCEO (Canon law for the eastern churches) does not include requirement of screens; the CIC does not apply to the eastern churches, only the Latin Rite/Roman Church.

True, but I was operating under the assumption that the poster is a Latin Rite Catholic.

I would like to know everyone’s opinion of which they prefer for confession–a priest who you do not know or one who is very familiar to you? The reason I ask is because I can see the merits of both. Sometimes we feel more comfortable going to someone who doesn’t necessarily know us. On the other hand, there is a certain comfort in knowing your confessor well. Do you choose your confessor for a particular reason or just go with the flow?
i would like to confess on the priest that i dont know… so that i will not feel shy on certain things…
