What is your schedule for The Triduum?

This is my favorite week of the year. In fact, I love the whole Lenten season. It reminds me of what is really important and brings me closer to God.
As for The Triduum:
Attended the Mass of the Lord’s Supper last evening.
Will attend the Solemn Liturgy @ noon today, then must go back to work.
Stations of the Cross tonight @ 7, then will probably go home to watch “The Passion of the Christ” (Until reading the posts here, I thought I was the only one who did that!)
Saturday morning confession, then a walk-thru for the candidates & their sponsors (I’m sponsoring someone this year)
Then Easter Vigil @ 8:30 tomorrow night, with a reception afterwards, probably won’t get home till after midnight.
After sleeping in a bit, I will probably attend the late morning Mass on Easter Sunday.

Holy Thursday:

Work to get everything ready for the Triduum.
Leave the office at 4, back to the church at 6:15 p.m. for last minute details.
Carry and present the Sacred Chrism during the Offertory Procession.
After Mass, finish the bit of office work that we’d forgotten for Good Friday.
Go for coffee and return to the church for adoration until 11:45

Today:
Housework (in Canada Good Friday is a statutory holiday).
Passion at 3 p.m. - I’m doing the First Reading.
Friends’ home for fish cakes for supper
Probably Stations at 7 p.m.

Tomorrow:
House cleaning & cooking for the post Vigil ‘Break Fast’.
Vigil at 9 p.m. where DH and I are each singing one of the Psalms (although not Catholic, he sings with our choir) and I’m reading the Epistle.
Probably home at some point after midnight.

Easter:
I haven’t decided if I’m returning to Mass or not. I think it’s the first year in many that I’m not needed to be a reader – they’re having some of the children read.
Friends are coming over for Easter Dinner at 5.

I actually haven’t checked the weather forecasts in a while, but it began raining here in Missouri last night, and it was still raining this morning. I thought it was rather fitting. But then again, this is Missouri. 😛

I watched the Passion at 1pm…Before that, my kids and I prayed the Rosary, my dh has to work today, but we watched the service this morning on EWTN. At least he could catch some of that. I plan to pray the Chaplet shortly, and then I must clean …then meditate for the remainder of the day, probably going to have something simple for dinner.

Mel Gibson’s direction in Passion of the Christ–it’s just so moving. I sobbed as I normally do, watching it. I take away something new everytime I watch it–today, I paid close attention to Mary…and how she must have been so sad to watch her son brutally executed. How she knew it would happen, but how sad and painful it all must have been. And how Christ stood up and grew stronger everytime He looked over at His mother. It was very moving…

Click on “Audio Stations”. It’s in Mary’s point of view. I did that today and I sobbed throughout it. Her heart was so pierced through, watching her beloved Son enter into such a horrible, but necessary, death.
 
Today at noon, our highschoolers (including me) watched the Passion. Then we went to the Good Friday Liturgy! It was beatuiful! We have a large cross. We had five all male, all high school, all cassock and surplice altar servers. Myself and another server stood on each side of the cross while the congregation venerated and then I though it was beautiful, in perfect sync, we both moved forward genuflected, and kissed the feet of the cross. Then in perfect sync, two of the other servers who had been holding the candles the whole time, processed to the rectory with the deacon and retrieved the Blessed Sacrement. It was so beautiful standing by the cross and watching the different forms of devotion. I saw at least ten very young (5 or 6) children kneel and kiss the cross with huge smiles on their faces! It was amazing to see young, old, and young helping old all venerate the cross together.
The only thing dissapointing was the crucifix. We have this very, very large unmovable crucifix behind the altar. For some strange reason no one noticed it was uncovered until the Liturgy began. I didn’t even notice and that is something I normally would have made a comment about. oh well, i think God understands. (i hope so!)

I felt it was ok to get on the computer after sundown, because Good Friday is “officially” over. 🤷 But yea, it was awesome and I cannot wait until the Easter Vigil! (i am the only server with multiple priests and deacons and seminarians, and it is my duty to make sure Fr. Eric does not catch fire! 👍)
 
Heh, it was kind of ironic last night. Despite the weather, there was a bird on the roof happily chirping throughout the service. :whistle:

I don’t believe I have ever been to an easter vigil, sounds weird no? But, typically, we always go to Sunday Easter mass. ***

Our vigil was amazing! One thing about the newer things in the church (and let me tell you, I don’t like many!) is full imersion baptism! It was soooo beautiful! I was all wet though because one lady was crying so hard, she couldn’t get out of the baptismal font! It was a very beautiful mass though and next year I will be studying hard and hope to serve at a Latin vigil mass.

Don’t believe I’ve ever been to one either. Funny, my parents had no problems taking us to Midnight Mass at Christmas, don’t know why we never went to an Easter Vigil - I suppose it’s longer or something. 🤷

  • Parish Easter Egg Hunt. ~7:00 pm (follows liturgy)
Pascha:* Resurrection Matins and Divine Liturgy 9:00 am* Blessing of the Easter Baskets ~11:30 (follows liturgy.)
 
Done (whew)

I went home and took a nap. I had nightmares of still being in Mass and I kept missing cues for different songs and additions Father threw in.

the Easter Vigil is normally at least 2 hours, usually longer depending on how many RCIA candidates are receiving the sacraments of initiation. In addition to the performance of these sacraments during Mass, there are also I think…7(?) long readings.

A Midnight Mass at Christmas typically isn’t that much longer than a normal Sunday Mass, although the distribution of the Eucharist would probably take a little longer because of all the extra people.

I really am not the jealous type…but I’m jealous. :DPerogi making…in Alaska?:o I have always wanted to live there, at least for a short time during the year…and make perogis? At the same time? That sounds like a wonderful thing to do during The Triduum:yup:…maybe next year. Thanks for sharing…did your schedule pan out, did you do everything you had planned?
 
Here’s something I can add here…my dd and I colored eggs yesterday, after we arrived home from the Vigil mass…and on most of the eggs, we placed a Scripture…it was something different than we ever have done. I think it will become a tradition for us every year now…I hope dd will want to keep coloring easter egg into her teens. :o DS did one or two eggs, but I think he felt he was too ‘old’ for this now. 😦 He willingly accepted the money and candy given today, though. 😉

Rev. Fr. Mike dropped the extra readings this morning, and only did the gospel in English, Spanish, and Latin, (dropping Slavonic, Hungarian, and one other from the eparchial “standard” for Eparchy of Van Nuys, and dropped the optional readings for Resurrection Matins… so Liturgy ended at 11:15…

Yeah, I got in everything except (as previously noted) friday night liturgy.

I’m brain-drained right now.
