The old saying “different strokes for different folks” is a common one. I found this interesting source of info on the topic of the Temperaments.
fisheaters.com/fourtemperaments.html

Down near the bottom of the page, you will find a test to determine your Temperament. Or, If you don’t have a lot of time to read the primer, go on and take the test here…

I’m sceptical of such quizzes and their results, but this one seemed to "figure me out ". 🙂

It determined I’m a nervous melancholic.

So, what is your Temperament ?

This one did not seem to work for me, it had me labeled as Choleric. Strangely it gave results that were oppoiste to some of the answers that I gave. It was fun though!

Lately I’m tedious and unimaginative. But hey, I’ve been called worse!

I’m a hot headed cuss with a very bad habit of using vulgar language when I’m at a loss for nice charitable things to say about stinky rotten scoundrellls ooooops did I spell that wrong?

Peace,

Gail

The quiz results say that I might consider a career as a housewife with a happy family. If I could find a happy family, I might try that out. 😃

Here is my own self examination:

I am easy going, a loner but devoted to my family, self educated, good imagination, naturally a slight procrastinator, avoid conflicts till last resort but look out when I get pushed too far, shy, sensitive to others feelings and opinions about me.

I took a test on this at www.4marks.com

It has 4 temperments, with blends of each.

It determined I am a Melacholic-Phlegmatic. I got 87% Melacholic and 13% Phlegmatic.

Wow, I often thought I would be melancholic, but it says I am choleric. I am really not sure that I am. Choleric people seem to be more fiery and aggressive than I am. Interesting.

Yep, the melancholic description fits me much better.

I took THIS test and got “Nervous” melancholic

lol

Well…I wanted to be a writer anyway…lol

But the 4Marks one is a lot mroe detailed, I think.

I’m not a pure melacholic.

Such tests are superstitious, for they aim to “reveal” hidden knowledge about yourself, which only God can reveal, and they take away your trust in Him, replacing Him with the answers you give.

I scored “Meloncholic”. Some things were spot on, other assessments were way off. Overall I could see myself in the melancholic temperament as outlined on the website; however it did strike me that if anyone (say in leadership or formation) took these tests dead seriously on every aspect they could do damage to a person in their charge.

I found it interesting but not something I would recommend - belongs to the library of specialists like psychologists that know what they are doing.

My take!

Wow, all these phlegmatics and melancholics - I’m a sanguine meself :tiphat:

Said I love sensual pleasures too much (things like food and drink) and that I find the virtue of obedience easy, but any virtue requiring real effort is a problem for me - spot on.

It said I’m a choleric. I can see most of that, but I also think I’m a mix of a melancholic, too.

I’m a melancholic too, exept that I don’t have, and never have had difficulty speaking in front of groups which is one of the traits of a melancholic.

no they are not and no they do not
they claim to help you understand yourself better and rely on the observations and experience of yourself and others, and simply categorize your personality on that basis.

it is just a personality quiz, it is not necromancy

your personality and temperment are not “hidden knowledge”, they are there for all to see, anyone who knows you well can give you a pretty accurate idea of your temperment w/o a quiz

Apparently I’m a mix between melancholic and phlegmatic… (in the second portion of the test I scored exactly 50%). 🤷

I got introduced to Temperament/Spirituality at a Lutheran Clergy retreat a few years ago. The leader used the Myers-Brigs system and it was an eye opener.

As I began to follow up on the results, confirmed by several retests by psychologists in different settings, I discovered that almost all of the literature was by Catholics and I devoured quite a few books. It was through this exercise that I began to realize my spiritual gifts and the best fit of prayer life for me. It also moved me along the path to Rome.

I forget exactly what I am in the Caloric-Phlegmatic-Sanguine-Melancholic system but recall being a Cholaric/Melancholic hybrid.

My spirituality profile puts me in the Thomistic category and my prayer style is Dominican.

This fits well considering my background and how like St. Domenic I spend a lot of time reconciling scientific data with revelation while “chatting” with God.

Before discovering this wealth of Catholic literature, I often felt out of place and wondered if God could really use me. Now I know He can.

In Christ,
Harri

It was quite thorough and pegged me as a Nervous Melancholic - the description nailed me on almost everything. I took the 4Marks personality quiz and it said I was 80+% Melancholic and almost 20% phlegmatic. So, I guess there’s not a lot of getting around it. What I thought was especially helpful was the “training” of the Melancholic it listed. Yup, it was good. 😉
