If my scriptural references offend you then please refrain from reading them. If you disagree with them, or my interpretation of them, please feel free to let me know and why.
My friend, scripture is not offensive, though I do get a little offended at the way it gets handled. Everyone has already felt free and done this and let you know, they have given excellent reasons, presented perfectly good and sound arguments, and corrected your eisegesis. But still you insist the same thing.
Secondly any cult that says Jesus’s words are life is telling you a Truth. Jesus said: ‘‘My WORDS are … LIFE.’’ Tell me is it illogical to assume that when Jesus says my words are life, that His words are life?
The difference between what you are saying and what Jesus actually said is that you believe Jesus’ words themselves are life. Absorb those words, and by those words absorb spirit. On the other hand Jesus words always said “DO SOMETHING”. And in the case of John 6 the thing that he said to do was … exactly what he said you must do.

Jesus never wrote a book. If he wanted to give us life by a book, he would have written one. Instead when he wanted to give us life, he gave us himself.

Secondly any cult that says Jesus’s words are life is telling you a Truth.
I am putting this in a different post because it is a slightly different approach to my first reply and I was unsure how to include it in that context.

You are incorrect on this point. Anyone who says Jesus Christ himself is the Way the Truth and the Life, now that would be telling truth.

Why does the Catechism get revised then?
Two main reasons. One is that our understanding of God’s revelation of Himself develops over time.

Second, the needs of the culture change over time. For example, the issues we see now with legalized abortion and in vitro fertilization did not exist before.
And when?
As often as the Church deems necessary.
And whom am I trusting to proof read these revisions?
If you can’t trust Jesus to guide His One Church as He promised, then you certainly will not be able to trust those He has left to serve it until He comes again. 🤷
And what assurance do I have the proof reader is given the gift of prophecy?
Proofreaders do not develop the text. It is developed by those to whom He made the promise that He would guide them into “all Truth”.
Code:
Where is the scriptural process laid down by either Our Lord or Peter (or someone else with gift of prophecy like Paul, whom Peter approved) for choosing the successor of Peter?
This is a very good question. There is quite a bit of scripture in relation to Apostolic Succession. Just a clue, though, since Pentecost we don’t use the drawing of lots anymore. 😃
So your saying James is wrong in 1:5? "5But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.’’
Scripture is written by, for, and about Catholics. It is difficult to understand it apart from the faith that produced it. The Holy Spirit does not guide one person in one direction (with regard to the meaning of scripture) and another in the opposite. Such verses must be understood within their context, which is the Catholic Church.
But how can life be in them if they did not partake of the Eucharist? Because the Catholic position says (as I understand it) the only way to receive Christ’s Flesh and Blood is in the Eucharist?
God is not bound by the methods He gives to humans. He can give life to whoever He likes however He wants. He gives us a sure and confident way to know we have life in us, through the Eucharist.
I agree. Councils can help define a doctrine by making the teaching more clear on a debated matter. But IF a great division still exists within the Church after a Council it means the Church did not fully explain the doctrine.
Perhaps, or perhaps those in schism just did not accept the explanation?

Do you really believe all those Arians just suddenly changed their minds after the Council of Nicea?
It needs work so it can be accepted by both sides. Look at the joint agreement on justification. A restatement of position (IE a better teaching) brought two factions closer together on agreement on the issue.
There is certainly a great deal of ecumenical work yet to be completed.
So to take the stance (as both sides to) of having a fullness of teaching authority on that matter seems absurd to me.
It seems absurd to you that people with two different ideas both think they are right?
Let’s take a look at where teaching on the Trinity doctrine could be improved.
My you are an audacious one, are you not? 😉
So God is not all knowing, or all wise enough to structure a universe where all things freely chose Him? Is this beyond His capacity?
Certainly not. I am sure He could have done it that way if He so desired.
So as long as someone truly believes what they hold to be true then that is what keeps them in unity with Christ?
Not if it is in contradiction to what God has revealed about Himself. At least unless the person is not invincibly ignorant. I can assure you that you do not qualify as such.
But a full council requires all the Bishops. And whom is a Bishop? What makes a Bishop? Whom is included?
This is also an excellent question and one which has been addressed in many ways over the last 2000 years.
The saints are Alive in Christ at the end and it is to Christ whom they plead with (metaphorically because the events would already be accomplished). It is God showing that He is the one whom will exact Justice for those of His saints whom suffered because of the choices of others. They plead though it is already accomplished. As for appearances in the old Testament the same could be applied. The Ghosts that appeared at the death of Christ for example could have been them appearing to convince the Jews of what they had done to the One whom they were in.
The saints plead with Christ metaphorically? How does that work, exactly?

The people who appeared in Jerusalem after the resurrection were not “ghosts”. Scripture is clear that the tombs were opened. They were in their resurrected bodies.

Well the apostles never defined sin or hell.
I am surprised to read this. Many of your posts seem to indicate that you are educated and know the scriptures. Perhaps you are just in denial.

The nature of hell and sin had already been revealed by God before the Apostles were born. They did not spend a lot of effort addressing revelation that had already occurred.
And the definition of separation from God for sin is woefully inadequate.
Certainly there are many other things that can be said about sin and hell, in addition to the fact that sin separates us from God.
Nothing can separate us from the Love of God, in Jesus Christ Our Lord. Is this Love the Holy Spirit? If not then What was in Jesus Christ? Something other than Love?
It is a very common fallacy to confuse salvation with love. God loves every person He creates. He loves us so much that He allows us to choose whether or not we wish to be in relationship with Him and to remain with Him for eternity. He will love us as He watches us walk through the gates of hell, if we so desire.
Code:
And if I am attached (not separate from) to the Love in Christ am I not also In Christ? And is not being in Christ, what it means to be a member of the Church?
No. The Apostles taught that we are joined to Christ in baptism, and are made members of His One Body, the Church. After being made a member of the Church, one can fall into sin, and thereby be imperfectly joined. Sin, though it separates is from Christ and His church, cannot remove the indelible mark of baptism. We are still children of God, though wayward.

Persons who engage in mortal sins do not inherit the Kingdom, so they cannot be united with their heavenly inheritance that is kept for them imperishable.
Sin is as real as nothingness. I’m not saying that actions are not sinful. I am not saying sin does not happen. I’m not saying there is not a sin unto death. I’m saying sin is like the concept of nothingness. It exists within the mind. And when you do something you deem sinful (a violation of what you believe to be what God wishes of you) it blinds you to the presence of God within you. Listen to Paul describe this.
I will agree that sin does sear the conscience and make us more and more unaware of God’s presence and actions. However, there is an objective reality here that is above and beyond individual persons becoming “blind”.
Code:
I will ask.. are we in hell now? If so what is hell? Hell, to me, is any existence temporally in which all things have not been brought into subjection under Christ's feet.
I can certainly agree that your definition here is consistent with hell, which is a state of separation from Christ. We can be in hell here on earth, as well as in eternity.
This is describing a future (the New Testament).

We are all dead in Christ. And we have all sinned. So we all die. Wages served. The free gift is Life in Christ by the Indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
So are you one of those New Age proponents who believes God saves everyone?

Jesus took our sins upon Himself on the cross so that we did not have to pay the price.

He gave his flesh on the cross for the life of the world, did he not?
So do you believe the whole world is saved?
Code:
I have two questions for you.
  1. If I partake of the Eucharist once and then never again will THEN I have life in me?
That depends on a lot of things. If you partake in an unworthy manner, then you will have brought condemnation upon yourself.
  1. If Words are Life (and understanding I can eat these words and have them abide in me) and all I eat of is Jesus’s words, and NOT the Eucharist, do I have life in me?
No. If you do not partake of the Eucharist, then you have not eaten His words, which command this. To be 'in Christ" means to follow His commandments.

You almost come across as a person who is trying to justify not being in communion.
Ok so I go and partake of the Eucharist once. Will then I have life in me?
Not necessarily.
Code:
What happens if I never do, but Christ's Spirit dwells within me? Will it NOT quicken my mortal bones on the last day?
In your case, no, because you already know too much. 😃

You cannot qualify as being invincibly ignorant.
You would agree they contain spirit and life… we are a little closer now, but I say that they ARE spirit and life. Not what they contain but what they are by nature.
And when he said, ‘‘this is my body’’ did he change all bread in the world to His Flesh? And when He said ‘‘this is my blood’’, did he change all wine in the world into His Blood?
Why not? and How does one know?
Yes. We know for the same reason you know that His Words are Spirit and Life. We know because of who He is. He said, “let there be light” and there was light etc. We trust the nature of who He is.
Ok what Jesus is saying here is that we need two things in order to get to know the Father and enter the Kingdom of God. We need water, and we need Spirit.
  1. what water? physical water? H2O?
  2. What Spirit? Christ’s Spirit?
Yes.
Code:
So you do not see a connection between Peter's response and the sermon highlighted above, besides a general affirmation of belief in it?
I think the only thing Peter understood was that Christ’s words are eternal life. “words of eternal life” Why not focus on the flesh and blood?
I think Jesus’ disciples were as freaked out as the rest of the Jews.
If you believe in the Eucharist and never partake, then you have no life in you. Those are Christ’s words, not mine. If you partake once, out of sincere belief, then you believe in the Church providing you that Eucharist, so you believe in Her teaching that you must partake every Sunday and Holy Day of Obligation.

Checkmate, my friend. Catholic up and go to Mass.Try the Latin, the music is beautiful.
While I agree with your point, I think it is possible that GIL is in an irregular situation of some kind that prevents presenting herself for the eucharist.
…telling you a Truth. Jesus said: ‘‘My WORDS are … LIFE.’’ Tell me is it illogical to assume that when Jesus says my words are life, that His words are life?
Yes, His words are life, and His words command that we eat and drink to have His life in us. There is no “this…AND NOT that”.
I agree with you, but I would not say it is “the other hand”, but the SAME hand. We are to BOTH receive his words, and enact his word.

Do you care for history or for truth? I care to understand what Christ meant to teach. That means testing ALL things (1 Thess 5:21). For if I accept the doctrines of men instead of relying on God to show me wisdom (James 1:22) than am I not no better than a Pharisee?
It is insulting that you you would ask this question and asking it shows that you fail to understand the appeal to history. The Church professes to hold the fullness of truth–so we do care about truth (to be quite truthful at times is seems some other churches seem more concerned about public opinion or their own sense of right and wrong or their own desires rather than the truth). The point that has been made and that you ignore–is that the witness of the apostles and earliest Christians was that the Eucharist is not symbolic. You don’t believe this is good evidence for what Jesus taught? You don’t believe that what the apostles taught is what Christ taught? You believe that some people 1600 years later had a better understanding of what Christ taught than those who actually knew him or who were instructed by someone who actually new him? Are you reading the scriptures as a whole considering the verses in their immediate context and in their relation to the scriptures as a whole?

Charity would have you assume we are all after the truth–I give you the benefit of the doubt–please extend the same courtesy.

The peace of Christ,
Mark

Understand I do not deny His Flesh and Blood is in the Eucharist. But if the Eucharist gives life and his words give life which do I choose? If I choose one over the other do I not still have life?
Why do you need to choose one over the other? Why would you not choose both? If at the last supper Christ commanded us to “Do this in memory of me” why would you chose not to do it? or to only do it once a month, or once a quarter, or twice a year? Why wouldn’t you just do what Christ asked? Can you not do both? What is the objection to doing both?

The peace of Christ,

God I Love,

Yes. If they understand what he is saying, yes. the catholic church made the mandate that a catholic must receive the body of Jesus at least once a year. Because it was at the directon of Jesus that all should receive his body. What kind of faith does a person have that wouldn’t receive at least once a year if they really believe it is Jesus’ own body? It is important that the life given to them from the Holy Spirit be nourished by the very life of grace, Jesus himself. How could they say that they love Jesus, when they ignore his desire to be one with them?
But when His Spirit is with you are you not one with Him, if Christ and the Father abide in you through the Holy Spirit? If you have the Spirit of Christ do you have life? If the Spirit still testifies to my spirit do I not still have life? If I decide not to partake will His Spirit not give me life?
Note, I am talking about Catholics, not others. Others may be ignorant in an innocent way of his desire. But Catholic means they know that this changed bread is the body of Jesus and that his statements are important about his very own body.
His desire was to show us the Father through His Spirit so they can be one with us. The indwelling of the Spirit in us allows us to be ‘‘taught by God’’. And we learn through Christ always.
Jesus is the new Pashcal lamb to be eaten at the new table from the new sacrifice. Whose blood was sprinkled on the lintel of the cross so that the angel of death(soul) will not take us. The people of old ate of the old Passover lamb at the old family table from the the old sacrifice. Whose blood was sprinkled on the lintel of the door so that death(body) might not enter their home.
Let me ask you a question… do you observe the Sabbath by going to mass every day? Or Holy days? Because Paul says either or is fine. If you do good, if not your still fine because those are only a shadow of the things to come in Christ.
''16Let no man therefore judge you in meat or in drink, or in respect of a festival day, or of the new moon, or of the sabbaths, 17Which are a shadow of things to come, but the body is of Christ." Col 2:16
This Jewish Passover meal was to be celebrated by every Jewish family once a year.
This Catholic Paschal meal is to be celebrated by every Catholic at least once a year.
By the sacrificial lamb both the old and new people were spared, but with with different lambs, and different deaths. The old signifying the new. So to be spared, “Unless you eat…”
So I do not have the atonement of my sins on the Cross with Christ always? And by dying with Christ do we not then have life through His Spirit?
I’m unsure just exactly how to understand this. But one thing for sure,…Jesus is God, and what he says is going to happen. His words do make things happen, just like at Cana when his words turned water into wine. But we wouldn’t say in that miracle that his words are spirit and life because it just wouldn’t fit.
So Did His words contain the Spirit of God which changed ‘‘transubstatiated’’ by willing it the water into wine? And is not that Spirit life?
Or when he said “peace” to the waves on lake Genesereth, we could say the same thing. So I would see what his words mean by what he intends them to do. And by his words “this is my body” he intends to make his words spirit and life by changing the bread into his own spirit and living body. In the Eucharist, we believe that Jesus is there in his body, blood, soul, and divinity, which is his spirit and life.
That is because the Divine Will of Christ’s Spirit enacted the peace by His Word. And the Spirit of Christ is what Transubstantiates the Eucharist. But, while you still receive Christ, does receiving the Eucharist add anything in Christ? You are already in Him and Him in you, provided you have His Spirit. Sorta echoing Paul when he says: ‘’“But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.” Rom 8:9. Now why can a priest transubstantiate through Christ but I can’t?
Mt 26;26 Now as they were eating Jesus took some bread, and when he had said the blessing, he broke it and gave it to the disciples. “Take and eat” he said, “this is my body.”
Jesus took some bread at the supper table, and that is what he changed into his body for them to eat.
Mt 26;27 Then he took the cup, and when he had returned thanks, he gave it to them. “Drink all of you from this”, he said, “for this is my blood…”.
Again he took a cup at the supper table and changed the wine in this cup into his blood.
So why can a priest transubstantiate?

The water that Jesus talks about with Nichodemous is the water of baptism, which gives birth(life) into the kingdom of the next world. The spirit that this water gives is the Holy Spirit whereby our soul becomes the temple of the Holy Spirit. After baptism of water, the Spirit resides within that person in grace.
How sure are you that it isn’t this water:
John 4:10-13
‘’“If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”

11 “Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?”

13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
‘’
At this point in Jesus’ teachings, Jesus never said “how” he was going to give them his body to eat. So Peter doesn’t know yet what form this eating will be…under the form of bread. So Peter says, whatever you say Lord…100%. He had pure blind faith. So Peter agrees.
It could be as you say in the sense of focusing on accepting this new food. If I remember correctly, it seems that Peter did say those very words elsewhere in the gospels, “words of eternal life.”
“There are millions in this world who are craving the pleasure earthly things afford,
but none can match the wonderous treasure that I find in the Bread from heaven, JESUS THE LORD.” Hymn
May you always experience Christ’s peace.
Peter may have not fully understood it at that point but how do you know he was not understanding Christ as saying ‘‘My Word (which will never fade Matt 24:35) is life’’ ? That’s what we must eat of. That’s my understanding and, while I don’t deny the Eucharist I question the necessity of it based on it this new interpretation.

So why can I not transubstantiate through the Spirit of Christ in me? And eat alone or with others and break bread and drink wine in the manner of Jesus every once in a while? When was my religion anything other than in Christ? That makes me a Catholic does it not? Or are there those outside of Christ that are somehow in Him?
And I must keep the Sabbath and Holy Days? So I’m misunderstanding Paul here: ‘‘16Let no man therefore judge you in meat or in drink, or in respect of a festival day, or of the new moon, or of the sabbaths, 17Which are a shadow of things to come, but the body is of Christ.’’ Col 2-16-17

On the other hand Jesus words always said “DO SOMETHING”. And in the case of John 6 the thing that he said to do was … exactly what he said you must do.
Yes He gave a very simple list of things to do: ‘‘Love one another as I have loved you’’.
Jesus never wrote a book. If he wanted to give us life by a book, he would have written one. Instead when he wanted to give us life, he gave us himself.
You are right. When we are a temple of the Holy Ghost we are one with Him. We are in Him and Him in us. Now why the Scriptures are important is because that is
  1. where the Gospel is found.
  2. The Apostles experience being led by the Spirit and the understanding it gave them and how those ‘‘weaker in faith’’ needed explanation for things. Hence the admonitions and teaching of scripture and philosophy. These are crucial as it allows us to read these experiences and teaching and better our own understanding daily. Because only God’s Spirit can allow anyone to interpret scripture properly.
So while Jesus didn’t, through his flesh and blood, write the scriptures, He did through others like Paul and Peter.

I am putting this in a different post because it is a slightly different approach to my first reply and I was unsure how to include it in that context.

So let’s say you held something to be true, and it was, but then later understood better and had more insight into it, would that make my latter position untrue? Now when ‘‘searching the deep things of God’’, by the Spirit do we not, in delving deeper, discover a better way of viewing something that before was in a sort of cognitive dissonance? Not that it was untrue before, but in connecting different concepts through a deepened understanding (by the relationship with the Spirit revealing to us that which we need) does not the latter position seem a shadow of your current view?

I don’t assume that you aren’t in truth. I’m just discussing, what to my understanding, seems a different view on things. Is that wrong? And if it is wrong will not the Spirit of God reveal to me my error? I wish to WORSHIP the Father in Truth. I don’t deny the Eucharist is His Flesh and Blood. I’m saying so are His Words and Spirit. I do not separate His Divinity (Through the Spirit) from His Body. Is that a false or heretical position?

“Do this in memory of me” Jesus Christ at the last supper. Why do you not want to do what Jesus commanded? Why the resistance? Thank you for acknowledging that your interpretation is “new”. Why the gymnastics to defend this “new” interpretation in an attempt to justify not doing what Jesus asked us to do–something that was done by the apostles and has been done by Christians ever since? I am confused and puzzled by it. If you love God (and I don’t doubt that you do) why don’t you want to do what he asked?

What evidence can you offer that Peter understood Jesus as saying “My Word is life” and that’s what we must eat of? The evidence is that they celebrated the Eucharist and ate of it–do you ignore and dismiss that evidence? Doesn’t that tell us something of about what those taught by Christ thought?

“Then the two recounted what had taken place on the way and how he was made known to them in the breaking of the bread” Luke 24:35

“They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of the bread and to prayer.” Acts 2:42

Not sure I’d phrase it like that but because they have been properly ordained to the priesthood. Care to answer the question(s) that were asked? The above are not answers.

Wasn’t the question you asked along the lines of: are we interested in history or the truth? That implies we’re not interested in the truth. That is what I objected to–not you advancing a different understanding. Perhaps I read your question incorrectly–if I did I apologize.

Again–if you believe the Eucharist is his flesh and blood–why wouldn’t you want to partake of it–given that he commanded us to and that the apostles and earliest Christians did. Why don’t you want to partake of somethings Christ initiated and asked us to do? You say you love Christ–why don’t you want to do what he asks?

Oh it is an answer in it’s own right but Ill answer your questions. The reason I stated my original question in a choose one over the other fashion is because I’m trying to figure out How these verses go together. ‘‘unless you eat and drink no life in you’’ with ‘‘my words are life’’ and ‘‘abide in Me, and My words abide in you’’. Now did Christ command us to receive the Eucharist once a year? Where? Because the only COMMANDMENT He gave was ''LOVE". Love one another (treat others the way you want to be treated) and Love God.
Properly ordained… with what? Is this a gift of the Holy Ghost like prophecy, or tongues? And what makes it proper?

“Do this in memory of me” Jesus Christ at the last supper. Why do you not want to do what Jesus commanded? Why the resistance? Thank you for acknowledging that your interpretation is “new”. Ok I have a supper and have bread and wine. Is this following His command if I say the words ‘‘this is my body" and "this is my blood’’ respectively as Christ did? And why the new interpretation… Well it brings together a lot of other concepts and verses in a way I hadn’t seen before and it makes more sense. I hold the position of the Eucharist being his flesh and blood soul and divinity. But my position that I think is a better interpretation I hold to be a more developed understanding of the sermon. That’s all.
