What is your view per Orthodox Iconography in a Catholic home?

A family member knowing I have a devotion to St. Anne recently gifted me a beautiful, Ukrainian Orthodox Icon of the saint and I love it and plan to use it further my Catholic devotion to her. But, considering that it’s an Orthodox Icon and not a typically Catholic (though, similar to such found in the Eastern Rites) I’m curious per the opinion of others on the matter.
 
I think it is fine. See section 1159-1162 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, which says among other things: “Christian iconography expresses in images the same Gospel message the Scripture communicates by words.”

I have many icon reproductions in my home. We Catholics share many of the same saints with the Orthodox from before the split. Those older Orthodox icons I have also remind me pray for Christian unity. I have some more recent icons of Western saints too. I love them!

I don’t have a problem with it. I mean, iconography is a tradition in Catholicism too. I have an icon of the theotokos with the Child Jesus, it is from Maronite Catholics in the Holy Land. I have another icon, this one is of Saint Basil, it says on the back it’s from St Joseph’s Orthodox boys school
 
There is no conflict.

As St. POPE JP II said, “The Church must breathe with both her lungs!”.
 
This kind of art was created by people inspired by God, in order to inspire others towards God. If it brings your mind to God then it can’t be bad.
 
I’m rather close to the Maronites as they’ve a monastery near my home here in Massachusetts. It’s part of the reason I love the eastern art, actually.
 
I have some. I really don’t see how this would be a conflict of your faith,

You’re in really good company, as you can see!

I have one hanging on our living room wall, that I like to look at.

A friend of mine gave it to me as a gift.

It’s a copy of a Russian Icon. It’s called Vladimir Icon Mother of God, or Theotokos of Vladimir.

Hehe, I am here. But, am finding the fundamentalists have really infested this site badly elsewhere and will probably be saying goodbye to it soon for that reason. Small wonder the church has so many problems maintaining numbers with people like that screaming left and right.

But, that is a lovely icon. 🙂
 
NO PROBLEM;

My Great Irish Grandpa used to say: “when you look for trouble your most likely going to find it” [so don’t look for it and proudly display it in your home. St Anne WILL protect you

I have never heard of any Catholic “fundamentalists” who object to religious art that looks as if it were inspired by the Black Madonna of Częstochowa.

Rule of thumb: If it would have been acceptable 300 years before Luther was born, the traditionalists aren’t going to have a problem with it.

The trouble with the internet is everyone has a voice. I think sometimes this means it looks like the people with crazy opinions are more common than they actually are.

Sometimes we also get trolls. I’m pretty sure the one talking about how the black Madonna was actually satanic was just a troll.

Oy, vey. Yes, on the internet any cat can pretend to be a queen.
 
The Ukrainian Orthodox are fully Orthodox and Catholic.

There is nothing wrong at all venerating Orthodox Christian icons.
