What items should Catholics carry?

Hi I was wondering what items should Catholics always have in their home or on them at times ie prayer book , rosary …

Whatever makes you comfortable. I have crucifix, rosary beads and a big bronze statue of St. Michael the Archangel. 👍
 
I used to wear a Crucifix but cannot afford to have the chain fixed.

I wear a Brown Scapular.

I have the New Testament which is generally in my work bag and I try to read some on my break.

I have a Divine Mercy booklet which I consult every now and then.

Rosaries of course. 😃

Cannot afford a Crucifix for the wall for our bedroom.

I don’t know what Catholics should carry but keep something with you.
 
I don’t think there’s a general rule for everyone.

For out and about, I’m pretty much always wearing my cross. I used to keep a rosary chaplet in my bag but I switched bags and I’m not sure where it is any more. I have a Saint Benedict prayer card in my purse. I always have my iPod with me and that has an app with the Bible and lots of prayers and other resources (iPieta, I thoroughly recommend it).

At home, I have a crucifix and a statue of the Blessed Mother. I have a little statue of an angel and one of my rosaries hangs on the back of my door, the other is at the feet of the statue of the Blessed Mother. I have a hanging tile that says “veni sancte spiritus”. I have my Bible, my prayer book, a copy of The Imitation of Christ and a copy of Caritas in Veritate on my bookshelf.
 
In addition to the items mentioned, each is a matter of individual preference. I would recommend carrying a card in your wallet that states that you are a Catholic, and in the event of a medical emergency, you would want a priest to be called to administer the Sacrament of the Sick to you or the last rites, if applicable.

Personally, when my father suffered a stroke and was being cared for in the ER, the first thing I did was ask for a priest. I felt more of a sense of urgency to make sure the priest arrived in time because I knew my dad’s death was imminent and I wanted him to have the benefit of having his spiritual needs attended to as a first priority.
 
I always have a rosary on me somewhere or in my bag along with a four leaf clover I’ve had forever! I usually have some necklace on that’s a cross, a Celtic cross, a Mary medal, etc. I the last few months I’ve found two scapulars One was part of a green one in working lot. The other was brown I think though much faded and in disrepair. I’m thinking about getting a new brown one for myself. I usually have a journal all the time with all kinds of prayer cards and notes in them. Rosarys on the bedposts and I have a prayer shawl from my retreat. Crucifix above all the beds and palms under all the mattresses though that may be a Pittsburgh thing along with the Last Supper art in the dining room. Holy water font and the Mary garden outside. My hubby wants to make a little home alter somewhere in our house so we are thinking about that.

I keep the sacramental of the palms from Palm Sunday in a vase.
In a catholic home, it’s good to have a holy water font at the doors and a crucifix in each room.

You should make a place for a home altar to keep a bible, and holy items on.

At home, I have a small crucifix up. I wear a cross at all times and carry a rosary in whatever coat pocket I am wearing. I tend to have my bible in my bag too.

If I’m travelling I’ll have another rosary in a luggage bag pocket too 🙂
 
I have my rosary. I have a Miraculous Medal but have to get the chain fixed before I can start wearing it again. I have a few books and of course, my Bible. I also have a brown scapular buthave not been invested in it so I don’t wear it yet. There are a few items I plan on getting this year, as well as making a home altar. Oh, and I have a bottle of Holy water from the Basilica in Saint Louis…

Your home? Bible, Catechism, Crucifix at a minimum

On you? whatever you want, however I always have on me a Card in my wallet that basically states “I’m a Catholic, In the event of an accident, Call a Priest (with my Parish Priests phone number and address on the back)”, on top of that I have a Benedictine Crucifix (as an oblate, my abbot asks that all oblates wear the Benedictine Crucifix, as a reminder of Christs sacrifice, and an outward sign of my membership of the Benedictine Order).

I also have a “dog tag” hanging on my key chain which says “I am Catholic, call a priest”. It’s hot pink plastic so I figure someone might notice it quicker than finding my ID in my purse.

I normally I have

  • Prayer book
  • Rosary
I try to keep these items with me where ever I go
 
One night I rushed out to weekly adoration and forgot all my stuff - my rosary, my copy of Christian Prayer, etc. It wound up being one of the greatest hours in prayer I have had. So lately I have been carrying less, not more, and have been bringing nothing into adoration except my rosary.

I find that it leaves me exposed, without a crutch to lean on. Now I’m not saying that having reigious stuff is a crutch - I have plenty of books and medals and rosaries and holy water bottles. But sometimes I carry a bunch of stuff because it makes me feel more secure.

Would I be considered contrarian if I suggested that all we really need is Jesus in our heart? Maybe it’s just my “Inner monk.” :rolleyes:
