I could probably write a long-winded dissertation, but I won’t.

I just remember what my wonderful Grandmother told me when I was a child: God helps them that help themselves! I am also a firm believer in the saying: When the going gets tough, the tough get going, and the weak shall fall by the wayside. And I’ve learned over the years…that no matter how bad you think you have it…look around and you’ll see someone who has it worse. Count your blessings and keep going!

Since becoming Catholic, I’ve learned to “offer it up.” There’s always someone worse off than me that I can offer my pain and depression up for. That turns it in to a positive thing, though there are many days when I say that through gritted teeth…

I also rely on the Serenity Prayer - the whole thing, not the abbreviated version:

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference; living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time, accepting hardship as a pathway to peace, taking, as Jesus did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; trusting that You will make all things right if I surrender to Your will, so that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with You forever in the next.

Whenever times get tough for me, I go to confession and have an examination of concious. If things are out of my control, then I meditate on a crucifix for a half hour to an hour… believe me I dont need to go into details of what happens when I meditate on the crucifix, but the outcome is always consoling. If I need assistance and cant find it, I go straight to Jesus himself, and have a talk with him at my hour of Adoration of the blessed Sacrament, you know Jesus always likes it when we spend at least one hour with him as he told the disciples.

Then there’s the Rosary, fasting, Prayer, offering of the Mass intention, do a penance offering, feed the poor, visit prisons, give clothes away to a needing family, visit and heal the sick. PRay the mercy prayer… Catholics have so many weapons at our disposal to defeat the enemy, Just pondering What God has given us, actually God has spoiled us with his mercy and forgiveness. Praise be to God both now and forever.
